Welcome. Your roots should never lock up completely to the scalp. In fact, there should always be about 1-3 inches of straight hair for the first year or so. After that, there should be between 1/4 - 1 inch at the roots.
oiliness can be a factor but can be adjusted ..wash with the baking soda ..but no acv..for a few weeks and wash 1 to 2 days less often..
oiliness is caused by overwashing and by the hair beuing too acidic alter both and the oiliness will slowly fade away..a thyme tea spry on the scalp helps too
also wash with warm tgo hot to remove oils but then rince with freezxing cold to seal the pores and cuticles so less oils produced

well the natural way was working ci=orectly the roots will take most of the year to lock.. and should always have a minumum of 1/2 an inch loose
however the 1st many months that will be 3 inches undreaded at the roots
this is normal to any dreading method..you shou,ld have continued to stick with the naturalk
you should not palm roll!
if your set on starting them then tnr ios way better then backcomb
