Welcome. Yeah the wax won't wash itself out. Normal soap and water won't get rid of it. Wax is a hydrocarbon, which means it is not soluble in water. You need a heavy duty detergent that is tough on grease to get rid of it. And it takes multiple sessions to get rid of it. As long as wax is still in your hair, they will not lock up. And it also holds water in deep crevices that can become swamps of decaying matter.

And crocheting will only hurt your locks

welcome rubber bands wax and crochet are all horibly bad

the crochet will take 6 months to a year to recover from throw the hook away

wax its not enough to stop using it using it only one tinme can screw the dreads up forever unless you thouroughly remove it

so use the wax removal info here
