Welcome. After you look through the dreaducation page, look at the timeline forums to see what the first few weeks/months will look like

hi Frankiee, welcome to the community. So glad you found the best site on the web to learn all about how to grow healthy dreadlocks. Hair likes to start knotting at 6 inches or more but will certainly separate into sections when shorter than that. On here, you will learn all about the different methods, pros and cons. Of course, the free form / neglect method is the best way, then the T&R method which causes little or no damage if done properly. However you start, let your hair separate into sections naturally first, it usually takes a couple of weeks, This way, you hair tells you where it wants the dreads. Once you throw away your brush or comb, you have begun your journey. You can do that right now, and while your hair is separating into sections, you can learn everything you need to know....enjoy the site and your future journey....peace

I see you are from the States but don't know where, so here is a map to show you what type of water you have. If you have soft water, you can use any dread shampoo or bar with no problems. If you have hard water, many of them out there won't work properly and will leave behind a residue. www.dreadlockshampoo.com sells products that work fantastic in hard water, they are the best out there. The creator of those also happens to be a member on this site.
