New dreads

Introduce Yourself

Well, its been more or less a week since i started T'n R. Two weeks since I stopped brushing. I have only done the front sections of my hair. I am just going to let the back sort its self out and already there are 2 sections starting so far.

I decided to dread because I think they are so beautiful. I have since figured out this will be the test of patience for me, which is a good thing, I could use that life lesson. I have always had a lot of compliments on my hair but I never really liked it myself. I could never get it straight enough or to stay the way i styled it. Now I'm so in love with my hair!

Most of my teenage years I spent the summers living in a camper with no electricity and that is when i really stopped caring about my hair, although I still brushed it. What a relief it is to just let it go! I don't feel like dreads are all that "different" I see them everywhere I go. My only fear right now is trying to find a job because of all those lovely misconceptions. But I'm sure that will also sort its self out and something will happen when its supposed to.

Happy Dreading everyone :)

dry shampoo on my beautiful mess?

Introduce Yourself

try washing your hair more often. im guessing dry shampoo will just stay in your dreads same as any regular residue-filled shampoo. i do the baking soda wash every 2/3 days, as soon they start to look and feel greasy. i could be wrong but i think i read somewhere on this site that a cold water rinse at the end of the wash helps control oils too

veggie vegan omni ital? whats your diet and hows it relate to your dreadiness (if at all)

Dreads and Diets

I try to eat vegetarian as much as i can, avoid gluten, dairy and anything processed. I feel sick when i eat those things. but my partner is from samoa and visiting his family all they eat is meat and potatoes/taro and bread. and in their culture its rude to not accept food. its a tough one. going to the supermarket i notice a lot of fruit and veg from the US which seemsweirdbecause everything grows so well here in new zealand! when i first came to NZ i went into an organics shop and asked if they had any local free range meats and she told me all the meat in the supermarkets is free range but most likely not organic. a step in the right direction at least.
