What do you wash with?

Dread Maintenance

With Vicki's shampoo, I love it and still use it, but don't use the locking up shampoo after your locks have locked up... as silly as that sounds I'm now in my 11th month and used the liquid for 1 month (I was too lazy to use the bars) they now just shrink and get actually hard (they are locking too much if that's even possible I think...) so stick with the bars after the initial process is over :)

Separating dreads

Dread Maintenance

I used to be the same, but became lazy and gave up about it... I separate only when I feel I have to, but honestly just leave it, your hair knows how it wants to lock up. keep them the size you want, but I had 3 that kept wanting to join and I resisted for a few months, but gave up and have a really gorgeous dread. Although its kinda big, it actually looks better than how it was as 3 little ones. I would say (as an ex constant separater) do it max once a week otherwise it will drive you crazy, and it will be for no reason though your hair will still keep doing it! I'm on my 8th month of free form so was at your stage not so long ago :)

Where to make dreads in Bangkok?

General Questions

dude I honestly wouldnt do it thailand... I went last year and had them just do a hair wrap, when I wanted to take it out I found out why I couldnt so easily - they put GLUE in my hair under the string so it wont come off... thats just how Thai's are, its nothing bad but I really wouldnt trust them with dreads. Also there is a peak season of insects right now, not sure about you but for me glue+insects isnt something too appealing for me. Have fun there though! if you have a chance go to koh samui, its beautiful

Itchy scalp with inflamed roots...

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

hey guys and girls,

I have 8 month old free forming locks, which are doing fantastically :D but my scalp has been crazy itchy the past few days and I started feeling bumps... so I asked my partner to have a look and he said that the roots themselves are inflamed and red. Not all but quite a lot of them...

I shower in cold water since it's summer - and use dreadlockshampoo whenever I remember to (maybe once a week?)

anyone know anything to stop this pain?

Dreadlock myths debunked

General Questions

"white people's hair can't dread, it only matts" the one which annoys me the most...

"free forming isn't a real way to get dreadlocks, dreads can only be made" -by a friend who never has had dreads and believes he knows everything in the world.

Dreadlocks Shampoo Bars

Dread Maintenance

I love the bars - I bought 3 back in like January or something, I have used half of 2 of them and have still an un-used one. So 1 bar (in my case) lasts 6 months :P but I cut mine into small pieces and only wash 1 or 2 times a week, I dont feel the need for more

Personal experiance onNatural dreads? HELP!

General Questions

its different between everyone, since we all have different hair texture/length etc. For me I had dreads forming already at 2 months. My best suggestion is buy dreadlock shampoo that this website advertizes, it helps the dread process by a lot! it will never finish, as long as your hair grows, your journey continues :) with free forming you have to be ready to look like a bird nest for some weeks, even months for some people so keep tat in mind. I'm now at 7 months of free forming and my hair has only recently stopped looking like a complete mess :P

Latch hooked horror... The worst dreading method

Dreading Methods

That looks seriously painful... I dont see why people cant wait a few months until they have locks... I'm now nearly 7 months in free forming and have a full head of dreads. All of this hook stuff is just crazy. I'm kind of waiting until someone knits their locks rather than crochet them :P
