forgive me if i made it sound like the dreads were doing this to me haha not what i was intending at all. i acceptresponsibility for what happened and have dealt with it. but there was obvious discrimination that came along because of my dreads, my roommate who was equally as big of a pothead as me and was not even searched or questioned because he didnt look the type and i did. i have absolutely no doubt in my mind if i didnt have dreads that they would have searched him as well.

and i respectfully disagree with the "there is no reason to be altering your mind state which such things" comment, that is a completely subjective statement and is completely dependent on the person. the mind is a beautiful thing and for me personally i love to delve into it and explore the potential of it, it can be extremely enlightening and spiritual and gives me personally a better sense of being, in the end its to each his/her own, what i find acceptable may not be to you.

right... im strongly considering doing that for spring quarter even if they dont evict me.

resident narc nazis hahahahaha hands down best thing ive heard them called.

Even if they don't kick you out find your own place. No more sharing crappers and showers and you can avoid the resident narc nazi's in the future.

i definitely agree with you. i havent told my parents yet and wouldnt until i found my own place if i do get evicted.. i want to be able to pay for my own place showing them that im not taking what they do for me for granted. so im sure in the end if thats what happens they will be happy and realize they are saving a hell of a lot of money.

and as for the story about the scientist at NASA i knew that was true! i told my father (a man against hiring people with dreadlocks... im trying to get him to change) there was someone working at NASA with natural dreadlocks and he didnt really believe me and he kinda laughed it off, he told me recently he told his colleagues that i had said that and they all didnt believe it and laughed at the thought so im glad that i was correct in telling him that!

yeauh could not agree with you more. ive decided to definitely continue on with my locks.

i dont think pot is the problem here.. its just that my parents help me pay for college and if i get evicted from the dorms its kinda like a big efff you to them you know?

i listened to you all and went out after class today to every open shop within 5 or 10 miles of my school and saw who was hiring, to my surprise it turns out that people really dont give half a shit if you have dreads. haha the employees of most stores i went to didnt even look at my hair. im going in tomorrow to talk to the manager of a gas station to see if that can go anywhere and the other possible job is at subway and an employee working said that they dont care what you look like and dont even drug test you. so as long as you present yourself well enough then theres a good chance that you could get the job. so im as hopeful as i can be that either of those will work out.

after going out today ive decided to keep my dreads and to completely throw the idea of cutting them out the window.

also ive already began looking into apartments in case i do ultimately get evicted... so much shit for a gram of herb!

i wish i would have denied more and told them to come back if they had a warrant but in our housing agreement the resident adviser can come into your room and check it if there is probably cause, also under the circumstances and pressure and having really never been in that situation before i was denying all the way up until the police officer told me that if she had to search and found it then she would have given me a citation or whatever so i figured that it would be best just to keep my legal record clean so i caved in. plus if they had searched the room there would have been much more found, i had a bubbler that was locked in my safe (i didnt think to put the herb in my safe because i didnt think it would last long enough to be sketchy), they would have also found a vaporizer, another couple g's of herb and another grinder that was full of herb and keef that were poorly hidden by someone who isnt me. so instead of them finding ALL of that and taking my roommate down with me i just took the shit end of it.

SE if only all cops were like that one, probably one of the cooler things ive heard of a cop doing before. i would have no problem telling anyone including an officer that i smoke and i have NEVER caused any trouble while under the influence of any substance especially herb.

ill post again what happens when they decide my fate here and if i end up getting a job haha

Hello to anyone who will read this. i know it is long but any responses to this will beimmenselyappreciated.

so a quick background on me, im 19, southern california college student studying aerospace engineering, so far i have a 3.3 gpa and am doing pretty well in college so far, i have two month old dreads and love them for what they are now, and as many people do, i smoke marijuana. which brings me to why imwritingthis discussion.

Just a few hours ago a police officer and a residentadviserof my college came knocking on my door due to a "faint smell of pot" in the room that they found earlier due to checking the rooms for students during the unexpected fire drill. Of course when they enter the room the focus is completely on me, and i guess rightfully so, as i am in the dreading process and have bob marley posters and other marijuana culture type things up. After a good couple of minutes of them badgering me and weighing the consequences i decided to just give up what i had and take my chances, they would have found it in a search so i just went with it. All i had was a dug out with a one hitter bat and a little ONE GRAM nug. and once i gave up what i had they were completely done with the search. they didnt even check my clean cut looking roommate, or anything else.

The problem in all of this was not the legal action that is going to be taken, the cop didnt give two shits about the pot she found i mean it was only a gram...., she had me flush it and brushed it off because it was such a minor thing. The dormitory that i am living in though will now begin the process where i have to go through and get evaluated and judged on this "crime" ive commited. Their policy, practically zero tolerance, is that even a first time offense EVEN IF MEDICINAL may result in eviction, so far that has been the case for others that have been caught, but i dont know the conditions of their situation. So yeauh. They basically turn your life upside down, and my parents (supportive but not tolerant of pot) are going to be infuriated with me and i honestly fear they will stop helping pay for my schooling if i do get evicted from the dorms.

so as extreme as all of this seems for such a small thing, its just what i have to go through. so my question is...

should i cut off my dreads? they are only two months old and even though it kills me to think of having to cut them already i feel like it is a necessary option. the judging commitee will surely frown upon a person with dreadlocks and a marijuana offense, also a job where i live unless it is a smokeshop will not employ a person with dreads. i really see no other option that to cut my dreads if i want to somehow turn this around for the better,i think having them will definitely negatively affect any jobopportunitiesas well as screw my chances of dodging a bullet and not getting evicted.

ANY advice or thoughts or comments about my situation will be greatly appreciated.

thank you all for responding,
it's definitely reassuring knowing that other people have been through the same thing, I knew it was gonna fall apart, but not completely so it came as a bit of a surprise to me, but it's good to know that it'll take care of itself in time.

I think i'm gonna skip the locking gel for now and keep beads only on two of the loose sections (they are the two that will eventually be used to tie them all back once they are long and mature) and ill let the rest do what they want.

what to do with the few that are falling apart?

General Questions

So i'm fairly new to the dreading process and started my dreads through the backcombing method, they were done fairly tight so I expected a decent amount of loosening and it seems to be right on track with that, the only "issue" is that today after getting out of the shower I noticed that four or more of my baby locks in the back are almost completely undone and back to straight hair, so I gathered what I could and threw on a couple beads. I don't want to damage them further by re-backcombing and really do not feel like tnr them. If i just leave them alone will they dread up on their own even though it's straight hair? I was considering buying the "magic locking gel" but I don't have too much money being a college student so I would only want to buy it if it was actually going to make a difference.
any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.
