Annina's natural timeline

Member Journals and Timelines

I stopped brushing my hair August 22nd 2013. My hairtype is thin and fine but it tangles easily. I have dyed my hair with henna for many years but now I'm letting my natural color grow, my hair is naturally dark blonde.

1 week

At 2 weeks my hair started to form first loops.

1 month:

2 months: Top layer of my hair has dreaded super fast, they have shrunk a lot and formed blunted ends by themselves. At first I tried to comb the ends of the dreads but they just kept blunting, so I just gave up and left them alone. It looks funny when there are really short dreads at the top but the bottom layer of hair is still pretty much undreaded. I wash my hair every 2-3 days with baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

Update! 3 months. Since it's November and it's pretty dark at daytime too here where I live so it's hard to take a photo where you can actually see something... My hair looks like a rat's nest right now and it's not a pretty sight. :D So I avoid looking at the mirror as much as I can and I try to remember that it's only been 3 months... There are still hair underneath that isn't yet dreaded and those sections that are dreaded just keep shrinking and shrinking. :D

To be continued...

I'm quite new here, so hello!

Introduce Yourself

Thank you for your kind words. I've been thinking what it is actually that is holding me back. And I've realized that the more I think why I shouldn't have dreads the more invalid those arguments sound to me. I messaged with a girl I know who has dreads herself and she gave me a lot of courage. I just need to stop overthinking this and just let go. :) It's "just" hair after all.

Introduce Yourself

Hi! I registered to this site some months ago but haven't posted anything yet.

I had my first dreadlocks about 4 years ago. I didn't know basically anything about dreadlocks, I just decided to get them on a whim. I was ignorant then, I know. I had them about 3 months and then I decided to brush them out because I got so frustrated with them opening and being messy. How little I knew back then. Last summer I found out about the natural method of dreadlocks and got really interested. Then I found this site and I have been reading the discussions and learning a lot about dreadlocks.

I decided some time ago that I will start "growing" natural dreads at some point. I just feel so inspired and want to start the journey right now. :D I feel that something's holding me back though. I dance ballet and in ballet classes and performances hair must be "tidy". I know that dreads can be pulled on a bun too but I think that this "problem" is just mainly in my own head. I'm really insecure about myself. I'm on my journey of self-acceptance and defeating my insecurity about myself. My hair is now a bit past my shoulders and it's pretty thin and fine.
