Dr Bronners vs Dreadlockshampoo

General Questions

Which is better and why? Dr bronners or the stuff from Dreadlockshampoo.com? I've been using dr bronners for over a year now and Im happy with it. I'm constantly traveling n it's nice cuz I can get it anywhere n I feel like its comparable to the other stuff but I've never used the other stuff before. Any reason I should switch?

Why are my hair wraps SO loose??

Dread Accessories

I put a bunch of hair wraps in the other day and now a few of them are really starting to loosen/unravel towards the end. The knots at the bottom are still very secure, in fact, they won't even move up or down, but the embroidery thread above the knot in the lower half of the hair wrap is beginning to unwrap. I don't understand why. I have a few diff types of wraps in, and I don't kno that I really even did them "properly." I just looked up how to do it on YouTube for dreads and then looked at dready pics for inspiration. I have solid wraps, the ones that look like X's (which seem to hold up the best), and I have one by my face that's just a single spiral down (like half of an X design wrap). This one is coming undone the worst. But it's so secure on the bottom. I don't understand!!! Does anyone have any tips for me?? Please help! I'm getting so frustrated that I can't figure it out!

Is something wrong with my dreads?!

crochet and dread tools recovery

So I have very recently switched to the neglect method, thanks to this site! :) but when I originally started my dreads a lil over a year ago I had no clue what I was doing, so my source for information was dreadheadhq.com unfortunately. I had my roots and ends in rubber bands for 2 months, I used there lock peppa powder, n I used a teeny tiny crochet hook for maintenance. I stopped using the lock peppa many months ago n the hook a few weeks ago. I have been playing in the ocean lately, which has helped to soften my dreads a lil bit but I feel like my dreads don't look right in the back. I feel as if my dreads r too thin. They never really thickened up or got fatter over time, n in the back I feel like I can see the sections I had when the rubberbands were in. I put some hair wraps n beads in yesterday to try and combine some, I had over 100, will my hair be ok?!?! I'm just getting anxious because now I think I can recognize the damage I was doing to my hair before and I don't want my hair to fall out!

Any tips to care for an itchy scalp???

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have had my dreads for a little over a year now and I did a baking soda/apple cider vinegar wash in my hair about 7 days ago for the 1st time and i absolutely loved it!!! I can't wait until i can do it again. About how long should I wait? My front hairline has a real tendency to get dry and flaky and the wash really helped, i completely stopped itching. But now I am starting to notice it coming back again. I use pure tea tree oil and occasionally lavender on my scalp to help, but that doesn't last long. (someone told me just applying pure tea tree oil, undiluted, onto your scalp can actually cause it to burn if you have sensitive skin like i do, is this true??) Any recommendations on what i can do?

Gettin' down with the funk

Dread Accessories

I want to add some funky colors to my hair but I'm hoping to avoid dying my dreads and adding extensions. I will be putting hair wraps in, but I have also been reading about felted wool. Any tips??

Deep Clean Wash

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

HeyI have been reading a lot about baking soda/acv washes. I have never done this but am very curious. I would LOVE deep clean my hair!!! Why are those ingredients chosen? Will my hair smell like vinegar for very long after? Should I use essential oils in the mix or fresh after? (I have lavender n tea tree). How long do I leave it on? Does it matter if its rice vinegar vs apple cider vinegar? Essentially, how do I do it?!

Newbie needs advice!

General Questions

Hello!

So I am brand spanking new to this site and I am so happy I have found it! I don't know anyone with dreads. Everything I know I have pretty much taught myself or picked up on here or there. So, I have a few questions. I have had my dreads for about 13 months now and I'm really happy to have them. They have matured to a nice place and I'm comfortable with them, but now I need less. I have well over 100 and thats just too many to maintain. I know on this forum, most people prefer completely natural, but unfortunately I have to keep mine up for work (I use the crochet hook). So, whats the best way to go about combining them? Adding hair wraps/felted wool? I would love to add some colorful decorations to my hair. I just don't know how to go about doing it. Next question, my dreads along my front hairline are starting to drive me bonkers!!!!!! They're poky n just kind of pop from the root. How can I get them to lay more flat? It drives me wild when I pull my hair back and I have 1 or 2 dreads just stick straight out the side of my head. Next question, to remain blonde or go back to my natural color...? I just love love LOVE having blonde hair. When it works out. It seems so difficult sometimes to get it just right. I am a licensed cosmetologist, so I know what I am doing, but damn is it difficult to get it right with dreadlocks. Running in and out of the shower to see if I need to tone or if I need more or wondering if I left it on for too long. UGH! And I hate washing my hair too much, because since I have so many little dreads they come apart easily. But I REALLY enjoy the contrast it offers when you add decorations into your hair, the bright blonde up against the bright colors. I just wish I had someone else to do it for me really. And one more question! I promise. Some of my dreads have taken on really strange shapes at the roots. For example, some are triangular, some are long and more narrow, others are good, but as the root grows out it looks a lot flatter n starts getting funky looking. Is this all ok? Should I do something to correct this?

Here are some pics to show you the progression. Maybe you can tell me what you in think in comparison from then until now.

Thanks!!!!!
