As much as I hate to admit it... In the early days of knotting, before my dreads really formed, I used pomade in my hair to style it.
Now, there are a few locks that have tons of lint trapped in them.... and I'm starting to think that the pomade may be the culprit.
Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I wash with to try and get the lint out?!
I love sunbabies, and alvas are okay too.. but Bumgenius are definitely my favorites.

Are you in cloth diaper swap groups on facebook? Thats where I've had the best luck finding used BG for a good price. If you aren't.... then type in "Bumgenius B/S/T" and you should be ale to find the swap group. another group is "Cloth Diaper B/S/T"

Personally, my age had nothing to do with my dreads.
I will admit... I'm a control freak. Every aspect of my life I've been able to manipulate and control, and now with my dreads I'm learning to let go and let it be.
Also, I realized that people with long hair will work to keep their hair brushed and tangle free, and my hair would knot up very quickly... it was to the point where I would have to brush my hair every day for more then an hour in order to keep knots away. So I was ready to just give that up.
and I love that dreadlocks are like natural works of art that change every day. They kinda have a mind of their own lol
One persons list of pros and cons of having dreads is bound to be different from someone elses... Just because hair type/skin type,hygienedifferences, sleeping positions, humidity, and many other factors change the way things are for one person opposed to another.
So just keep in mind that just because most people have dandruff... doesn't mean that you will definitely get dandruff if you dread. Ioccasionallyget a tiny bit of dandruff, but I wouldn't call it a con, just because its been easily manageable so far.
As many others said... dreads seriously will change you! But how exactly.... is completely up to you and your environment. (Both your physical and mental environment)
In my experience.. Dreads have changed the way I take care of myself. I used to be into all kinds of special skin products. expensive shampoos/conditioners, and stuff like that.. But now I really enjoy making my own shampoo, and body wash, and after shave for mysignificantother, lotions, face wash, face moisturizer... and tons of other skin care products!
The only cons I've really experienced are that my hair sticks to zippers and velcro. Also, the texture of each dread kind of feels like velcro when its on your neck.... so it can get a lil itchy.
I just bought a pack of hair bands that are meant for thick hair (they're bigger then the regular size)
and when I want to put my hair back I just put the elastic all the way around my hair once and thats it. For me it stays put all day.
Ioccasionallywear my hair up in a bun or a tighter pony, but it tends to feel too heavy for my scalp and its uncomfortable.
My hair is pretty oily, I wash every other day. I recently bought dreadlocksshampoo (off this site, the ad is to the left)
It keeps my oil under control for the 2 days.
I deal with thecriticismby ignoring it... or finding the humor in it.
Yesterday my family had a big get together and one of my cousins asked if I had dreads, I said yeah and he said "What, is water too expensive?"
I just ignored him.. that was the end of the conversation. lol
Then later, my boyfriend... who is totally supportive of my dreads and thinks they are sexy... so he says to me "Funny how the biggest redneck looking dude there made a comment about your dreads! He's one to talk!"
that made me laugh, and it was good to hear that someone else saw the stupidity in my "redneck" cousin's poor judgement.
Honestly I think that CONFIDENCE is the most attractive thing about a person. If you have no confidence people will see you as ugly, even if you are gorgeous!
Love yourself, and in turn others will love you.
