Thank you

Dready love

I have began my dreads in a very unique and trying time in my life. Though I have only began seven months ago the are beginning to reflect something I am continuously learning about myself. I have been tempted to brush them out when I was going through some difficulties. I feel that an outside change will help me feel like I am moving on with my life. But I didn't. I didn't want to move on to forget. I needed to be patient and persevere with my goals as a growing human being. Never forget the past because these experiences are there for me to grow. I have became more aware of human nature, and myself. It's a bitter sweet experience, as is with my hair very day. I am always thinking I should give up but hoping I don't. Thank you guys for all the great advice and help with continuing this journey.

Opinions on Birth Control Pills?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

... they all sucked. It left my periods much worse after I stopped taking them. I believe there are much safer and less invasive ways to control birth. My best advice is to never use the nuva ring, or patch. The consistent release of hormones gives you a higher chance of developing fatal blood clots. Have you ever heard of The Pearly or The Lady Comp? It is a device that takes your basal temp everyday so you know if you are ovulating or not. I haven't used it, but I have only read good reviews on it everywhere! Apparently it is 99.3% effective. It's mighty expensive, but so are babies. Do some research on it, and tell me what you think.

hard sticky stuff

Help! Save My Dreads

I used this generic 'natural' hair wash from walgreens called bioinfusion rosemary and mint shampoo. I've only used nutrigena once so far. It could be sebum because my hair was naturally really oily before I got dreads. Does sebum buildup lead to dread rot in the long run? This stuff was at the bottom of one of my dreads. It was a bit sticky and stiff. It wasn't rot, but I believe it could eventually rot given enough time to. I want to quit using shampoos all together anyway. Thank you for your advice =D

hard sticky stuff

Help! Save My Dreads

So a few of my dreads are a bit stiff. I was terribly worried that it would be something horrible like decomposing hair. Almost. I came over my fear of chopping my fattest dread, I opened it up and there was a sticky hard substance. It collects a lot of lint. It isn't mildew yet, it doesn't stink. I believe it to be a lot of residue buildup from my previous hair wash. I really need help with this one guys. I want to know of any way I can get this stuff out of my hair completely. For having young dreads they are pretty tight. I am worried that anything I try won't penetrate deep into the dreads enough. I never used wax or conditioners. I do my best to keep my hair dry for as long as possible. I am using Nutrogena res free shampoo for the time being, until I solve this problem. I really don't want to get rid of my babiess. Help me, I love them.

Straggly bits! To dread or not to dread!

Dreading Methods

I started with the same length of hair, and dreading method. It will all turn out fine. My hairline didn't dread right away either.

Need some input on TnR & Neglect

Dreading Methods

I did the same method. I neglected my head for about a month before I would gradually add some TnR here and there. The back of my head dreaded on its own, but my hairline needed some help with TnR. I really don't touch my hair besides separating them once in a while. I believe that washing my hair in a circular motion, then towel drying my hair in a circular motion helped accelerate the dreading process (don't over do it). I just try to make my hair as messy as possible when I wash and dry. I also believe it helps keep my roots nice and tight. After I dry my hair I would separate my dreadies. Separating is very important. There isn't much maintenance needed for dreads at all.

Girls with dreads

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I was told once that I would have more 'potential' without dreads haha. At bars and Concerts everyone loves my hair. At Walmart I get a bunch of funny stares. As far as looks are concerned, that is up to you. I feel just as attractive as I was before dreads, just with goofy hair. I haven't really got much into the dating seen since my last relationship so I wouldn't know how much effect it would have.

hmm, when will it grow?

General Questions

My hair has been dreading for 5 months and my babies are all super tight already! Since my hair was shoulder length before it was dreading, it has shrunk approximately 4 inches all over. I am just curious, will my hair stay the same length (shrink as it grows) or get shorter than it is now or actually grow from here on? Just a little curious. =)
