Dreadlocks & Discrimination: Interview Questions

General Talk

1.). My dreads are six months old. I tnr'd them. I wanted them to help me humble myself and remind myself that I'm beginning a journey into my new religion/way of life.2.). Most people wondered why I'd do such a thing to my hair. "I was so pretty/my hair was so pretty" before.3.). Lol, yes... I was sick and went to Panera. The cashier made fun of me for being high. ?? And once I was stopped at a gas station, my friend went inside and overheard the manager telling the employee to make sure the camera was on, he didn't like the way I looked. An old guy once told me I was disrespectful for presenting myself in such a dismal.shape then proceeded to ask if I went to church like I look. Things like that.4.). I use Jason's Tea Tree shampoo and Vickie's Goddess dread bar. I wash at least three times a week (after work) due to where I work. They're definitely clean.5.). I get a lot of, "Wow. I didn't know white people hair could dread with/without washing it!" And most people assume I'm a liberal, left-wing fanatic, hippie. Then of course the association with drug culture. I know the first one is just ignorance and can be helped. The latter isn't necessarily true. I'm not a liberal anyway.

Possibly a dumb tech question.

General Talk

Ah nice! I'm really excited to read this! Does it leave a scent in your locks? I'm not going to lie, I miss those days... I miss my Aveda shampoo. :(Anyway...... They say it works in hard water - and we have TERRIBLE water here - so I'm curious to see those results as well.

Root Separating

Dread Maintenance

Baba posted a great video tutorial on how to separate dreads. It helped me a LOT!

Root Separating

Dread Maintenance

^ What Supa said! I pull mine apart after I wash them. Just pull until you can't bear to pull any further. Eventually you will notice a network of hairs connecting the roots, this is normal, healthy, and necessary for natural locks. Personally, I like the way it looks too because there's no scalp showing. All my best!

Dreadlocked Patients

General Talk

Have you ever considered what you would like to happen to your locks should you become admitted as a patient to a hospital for some time and unable to care for yourself? What about if you end up in a long-term care facility?I really hadn't myself until the other day. I was assigned a young pt who was unresponsive with shoulder length locks. A part of my job responsibility is washing/bathing pts. We use leave in shampoo/conditioner. I didnt wash the pt's hair that day and instead talked to pt's mother about what she wanted used to maintain pt's hair. In the hospital and long-term care settings, we are either unfamiliar or unprepared to care for dreadlocks. Not to mention the question of how to let them dry while you're bedridden.Just a thought.

The back of my head -- it refuseth to dread.

General Questions

I'm a total side-sleeper, haha! The left side especially! So my left side's hair is the shortest, then the right, then the middle/back of my hair has a couple dreads that only have a few loops and are close to their original length... Oh well, lol, everything in it's own time...

Should i go "no touch" with BS/ACV or should i scrub the scalp?

Introduce Yourself

I scrub mine. No issues here from it. I tnr'd mine, they didn't undo themselves, and are dreading up. Of course, mine are only six months old so maybe there hasn't been enough time for issues to pop up.Best wishes!
