Melatonin

Introduce Yourself

If a "freaky looking shaman dude that looks like he lives in a cave and wears moss underwear and treabark pants" was truly a Shaman, and offered me healing... I would be verygrateful! I live with a lot of pain on a daily basis! I believe natural healing, herbs and stuff work better and are safer than most drugs.

There is one company Boron (I think that's spelled right), they have products in most pharmacies. I'm pretty sure Wal-Mart carries their stuff. They are a big rip off. In fact, if you want to test it, just call poison control and tell them you just took a whole bottle of the stuff. They will tell you that it's fine and there is NOTHING in it. Companies like that give homeopathic medicine a bad name. :(
These companies should be called out and held responsible, instead of just saying all homeopathic / holistic type healing is not real.

Melatonin

Introduce Yourself

Wow Kelly... I'm kinda with CJ. Yes at times strong words are needed. But look, I take the Melatonin which some disagreed with before I even posted. I'd be really hurt if you called me idiotic :( .

To be honest, I'd be real interested in CJ actually having and eye exam to be on the safe side and then letting us know how it went. If there's damage, then we know... if there is not, then I'd be interested to know exactly how he practices his sun gazing.

It's not really up to us to reprimand. State our on story maybe like I did, and CJ did actually. I figure he's grown and can research and decide for himself what he needs to do.

There are young teens on here though... and I'd hate for them to just see "sun-gazing" and go out and stare at the sun till they go blind.

CJ maybe you should make a post about this subject. The benefits, the dangers, the correct way to do it. And I'd really like to hear what an eye Dr. has to say about your eyes. That would benefit anybody interested in the practice :)

Peace to both of you!

Melatonin

Introduce Yourself

I watched a documentary a while back on sun gazing. The guy had an eye exam before and after... He did say he felt better when he was sun gazing, BUT... when he had his eyes checked at the end of the month, he DID have retinal damage... so.. yeah, just be careful with it, you maybe causing damage and not realizing it. Just concerned about you my friend.

Melatonin

Introduce Yourself

I feel the need to chime in here... I'm not disagreeing with anybody, just telling my own story.

I worked in a nursing home and found that where they used to give Benedryl (which leaves you really feeling hung over) for sleep, they have switched over to Melatonin. It doesn't leave them so hung over and doesn't appear to interact with other meds. You be surprised how much medicines residence in nursing homes take, it's crazy!

Anyhow the residents at the nursing home take it along with pain meds, anxiety meds, and all kinds of different meds, without anywhere near the ill effects caused by stuff like Benedryl.

As for weed, I really miss good old fashion REGULAR weed. The stuff these days is way to strong for me. I go into complete panic attack mode. Even from just 1 or 2 hits. If I ever find some of the old stuff, it's great for sleep for me, but it's really hard to come by. I'm not sure what the difference is in the stuff these days, but I can't stand the feeling it gives me.

Having said all that... I take 10mgs of Melatonin several times a week. Not necessarilyevery night but it's the only thing I've found that will shut off the random thoughts that keep me awake at times.Every timeI take Melatonin I wake up almost exactly 7 hours later and feel great and rested. I never felt any kind of high from it at all. I never built up a tolerance, it just didn't work at all until I got to 9-10mgs. So I take 2, 5mgs tablets, or 3, 3mgs tablets. May partner takes 3mgs every single night and has done so for at least 4 years! Neither of us have unusual dreams. Nothing different than before we found the Melatonin.

I'm not making any suggestions, just telling my own experience with it. I think you just have to experiment and see what works for you. Be careful, and ask your Dr. about it. Just because I mentioned that the residence at the nursing home take it with other meds, does NOT mean you should. PLEASE talk to your Dr. about it first. I was just trying to point out how mild it seems to be.

I did try Ambian once, and it was horrible. I got up and did things around the house and chatted with people online and even sent emails that I had no memory of the next day. Now that was scary!

Oh one last thing.... with Melatonin, there is about a 30 min window to go to sleep in. After that it's gone. So if you do choose to take it, take it and lay down within about 15 mins and you should drift off to sleep. If you wait past about 30mins, it's gone and won't do any good for falling asleep.

Take care!

Racism with dreadlocks?

General Talk

Yeah... I get what you're saying. I had an instance where I was in a beauty supply store that sell mostly stuff for African American hair types. I went in looking for beads and fun stuff. The lady that ran the store was very welcoming and helpful. Of course she tried to sell me many products (that's her job), but I refused and explained I was going the natural route. She found this interesting and we even talked about how dreads can be quite spiritual (she did exactly have dreads, but a twisted dread-like hair style). She was very warm and inviting I liked her instantly, she even gave a huge warm hug before I left :) .

There was another lady that came in and was huffing and puffing towards me and rolling her eyes at my hair and stuff. The lady running the story smiled apologetically and just roller her eyes and let me know it was all good on my part. I decided to try to be really nice to this lady and smiled at her and when she came near asked her about some of the beads I was looking at. At first she was cold but the more I smiled and talked she warmed up, and we both left on a positive note. Although I'm not imitating anybody I mentioned that imitation is the biggest form of flattery and she smiled really big at me.

I guess I'm just saying.... I try to give out warm positive energy. It's really hard to stay mad at someone who is being extremely nice to you. I think / hope she left feeling different about white people with dreadlocks. I think being good to people is the only way to combat racism.

Good luck! I brushed my out at 3 months and was miserable until it started dreading again. I felt almost naked and not myself.

Man, that sucks... You shudda never gave it up. From here one remember these 3 words, DENY, DENY, DENY! :)

Like SE said, you can say you smoke, just don't pull it out. I've had similar incidents as SE ...
