Homeschool/unschool folks?

dready interests

Let's not forget the important stuff they don't teach you and choose to teach lies instead. For example, I had no idea who Nikola Tesla was until after high school when I learned about him through random web surfing. We were taught that Thomas Edison was some great inventor. No, he just undermined other inventors, stole their work and made them look bad. Also, we were never taught that we essentially lost at Vietnam. These are just two small examples of things they don't teach in public school that make a lot of kids look like morons later in life. Public school also teaches kids to believe everything they hear so later in life you see a lot of them who aren't able to form their own opinions about anything. I'm sure we've all had a debate with those kind of people at least once and it's frustrating.

Homeschool/unschool folks?

I had never even heard of unschooling until I saw that word here the other day and the more I read about it, the more I want to try it when I have children.I went to public school for 12 years including preschool and kindergarten and it was terrible. I ended up dropping out in 11th grade because I wasn't going to class. I wasn't a rebel or anything, I just got bullied a lot and decided life was easier if I skipped the classes I shared with my tormenters. As a result, I suffer from severe social anxiety at the age if 24 but I've also learned more on my own than 12 years of school taught me. When I was skipping class I was either in the school library, public library, or at the lake. And when I was in class, I was constantly getting in trouble for going ahead of the class. It was neither a good learning environment nor social environment.

Pretty sure my roots hate me

Dread Maintenance

So it's fine even though some of the root hair from one dread literally comes from inside the middle of a neighboring section's roots?Another problem I've noticed when separating is that my hair doesn't rip. It just stretches. It's probably chemical damage from bleaching and dying it so much in the past but it makes it hard for my hair to not beaver tail in the back.

Pretty sure my roots hate me

Dread Maintenance

I remember reading somewhere around here that when you're sectioning for TnR you don't want hairs from one root crossing with another. Well I'm going natural (2 months in) and the whole underside of the back of my head is dreading pretty fiercely but I'm worried about the roots. With the way my hair chose to section itself, there's a lot of crossing and weaving going on. Ripping them apart won't do anything and if I let them combine they'll be too big for me to deal with.Is this normal or do I need to start over?

No Wash Dreads?? anyone done it?

Dread Maintenance

This thread kinda got me thinking. Before soap, shampoo or baking soda, didn't people just wash their hair with plain water?

What Shampoo/Soap should I use?!

Dread Products

I'm probably going to get a talking-to for this but I use Burt's Bees Rosemary and Peppermint body wash as shampoo. My scalp loves the oils in it and it makes my hair dread like crazy. I was going to get a bottle from the dreadlock shampoo site but I couldn't justify spending $20 I didn't really have on shampoo. I did a bit of research on both the ingredients and soap itself and decided it was just what I was looking for and so far (I bought it 3 weeks ago) I love it.

Just a question

General Questions

My hair locks up in random places. I'm about 2 months and a week in and I've got some that are locking closer to the root. Most seem to be locking about 2+ inches from my scalp but I also have one that's locking at the very tip. Like, the bottom 3 inches while the rest of that baby is still untangled. It's completely random but normal in my opinion because it's just your hair doing whatever it wants on its way to becoming dreads :)

You could always learn to crochet. Maybe make some tams or stuffed animals or something. It's one of my favorite hobbies.

T&R Maintenance Questions

Dread Maintenance

People actually burn their frizz off?! I don't see how that could be a good idea for anyone. Ever.
