I need to get the baking soda residue out of my hair...
Dread Maintenance
I do not agree with many people here, I live in so cal and have extremely hard water and bs never worked for me, dss soaps work but shipping is outrageous for a bottle

I was getting the same issue when I first started out, do you have hard water? If so that will produce that residue feeling/white gunk on scalp, no matter what ratios you use, how much you rinse, or how long you let it soak believe me I've learned threw trial and error, the problem is a lot of dreadies advise to use the bs/acv rinse without tagging on the warning of the hard water issue, or so I've noticed, what i do is use dreadlockssoap the Dragons blood liquid one, and about once a month I use filterd water for a bs/acv rinse
hope this helps
havnt been on this site in awhile, im 10 almost 11 months into my dread journey, everything is goin awesome this site and its people have helped me out alot and i thank and appreciate you all, i will be doing a full fledged update when i hit my year mark but i posted some pics of my dreads so far and also other random pics shot with my canon sx500is, i love that little thing, ill try and be more active on this site but working full time and starting school time is hard to come by, peace and love to all
ok so sounds like you pretty much have the same hair type as me, now im about 7 months in so not a veteran by anymeans but i know a bit, first wash your hair! not washing does not produce dreads, you can go to the top of this website find the dread education page and learn just about everything you need, but to save you the time ill jot a few things down here.... 1. like i said wash your hair, your gnna wanna use residue free shampoo or the bs/acv( baking soda, applecider vinegar rinse) this does not work for everyone though if you have hard water it wont work...2. did you use wax? if so gnna need to get that outa there...3. your not gnna have full on dreads right away unless there fake its gnna take at least a year, like i said im 7 months in and barley seeing definite change but its ok patience is definitely needed for true dreadlocks....hope this kinda helps definitely check out the dread education part on this site and oh yeah WELCOME TO THE SITE
let um curl! haha let them curl man just separate when needed, most of my dreads are just big thick curls it makes each one way more unique
good vibes to you brother =]
Just don't do the rinse if you have hard water I have had problems with that rinse and the water here in so cal
ph ok col thanks for the replies i think ima just stick with the dragons blood shampoo for now my scalp issue has been clearing up with that it was mostly the shedding that worried me but since its normal ill just try and not scrub so crazy thanks again everyone
no no wasnt using the bs/acv together, i was thinking adding acv to water to lower the ph and then adding that to the bs and oils but nah i just got the shampoo now im over the bs/acv lol
ok cool thanks for the response guys ok so i will not use the bs/acv rinse unless i get a reverse osmosis filter(i might any ways for me garden x} ) no se i dont live in england i live in socal but the ph is 8 right outa the tap and pretty hard to lots of minerals
and ok cool so i guess to kinda not slow the process down so much i shouldnt really scrub real good with my fingers? cause the hair that could be making the dreads thicker is just gonna be falling out? and as far as my scalp issue is it bad to not fully heal up the dandruff be4 u really let the dreads take off? cause i really dont want little white flakes all down my dreads once they lock up and get some length, plus i figure its not to healthy to just keep letting it get bad right?
thanks again guys!
