What this journey means to me

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I have always been one to say "I don't care what people think" when deep inside what they said about me would eat away at my confidence. I would look at everything as "What would my parents want me to do?" "What would people think?" "What would my boyfriend say?"

Then I grew up. I realized that life isn't about what other people think, say,or do. It is all about what YOU want to do. Some song lyrics that describe how life should be lived are "Sing with your head up, with your eyes closed. Not because you love the song, but because you love to sing." By a band called Copeland. I now live my life doing things, not because I love the idea of how everyone will percieve me, but because I WANT TO DO THEM.

I originally got dreads because I liked how they looked. When I started looking into them I had no clue what they would really mean to me. I decided one day to just go with it. I had synthetic dreads before that and I LOVED them so I decided, why not do the real thing?! So i just did it. After a couple weeks I was thinking, "Ugh what did I do??" I am an alt model and I am supposed to be sexy! People knew of me to have gorgeous hot pink hair, not a rat's nest!!! But I stuck it out. I continued reading people's timelines and loving what they had to say. They were all so connected to their dreads and I wanted that too! So I started taking the time to get to know each dread, instead of looking at the "mess" as a whole. At about 4 weeks in, I started loving what I saw! They were very slowly starting to look more like dreads! Now at 8 weeks in, I am absolutely in love. They are beautiful! So many loops and tangles and craziness! I've realized they have come to represent my life. As a child - adolesent I had struggles. Loops. Tangles in my life. And just like my dreads will come to do, I grew up and became the beautiful young lady that I am today. :)

Blessed Be to all of you in your personal dread journey! <3 Much love, Skully

Started with an A line bob????

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Just want to see if anyone else has to deal with this issue. I started with an A line bob (longer hair in front, short hair in back). My hair in the front reaches my shoulders and doesn't look super short, which I like. Only issue is, because of the awkward length in the back, the bottom layer of my hair is too short and wont dread up too well, and when i want to tie it up it doesn't stay up! I literally have to bobby pin the bottom layer of hair! So yea, just wanted to see if anyone else shares my pain lol

General Talk

Ok, so I have a photoshoot coming up here soon and I need to know, what should I do to make these dreads look a little more sexy and less insane?! lol I know messy is beautiful and that is fine, but if you take a look at the pics I just posted, o man they are REALLY crazy! lol I am just looking for more "sexy crazy"... so if I could get your advice on what to do that would be great!

Does it shrink less if you did T&R?

wearing baby dreads in a ponytail??

Dread Maintenance

So when I go out places, I usually wear my hair in a ponytaildue to crazy messiness (they are only a month old). I have heard 2 different stories about wearing them in ponytail. Doesit help with the dreading process or hurt the dreading process? Also, just wanted to say I look on the forums here everyday but due to my phone being old, I'm not able to sign in and talk to anyone. YOU GUYS ROCK! I love all the info you guys have on here!

Finally feeling comfortable with my dreads

Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone, I have posted before about not being sure about my dreads and my modeling career. I just started them 2 weeks ago and due to me being a very impatient person it's been a rough 2 weeks. But I am pleased to say that I had a breakthrough and realized the beauty of my knotty mess :) I love my baby dreads no matter how messy they are! I know they will look better and better over time and that is exciting! My personal journey is teaching me patience and its a skill I really NEED to learn.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo???

Dread Maintenance

Thanks guys! I used it last night because it was all i had, But I did the twist & rip method and they are still very dreaded! Maybe I'll just be a lucky one who's hair was in bad enough shape to hold! i bleached it a lot.... anyways, i will look into something better for the next wash!

Johnson's Baby Shampoo???

Dread Maintenance

Can I use this to wash my dreads? I figure if it's gentle enough for my babies then it should be gentle enough for my baby dreads too right? Or am I wrong?
