I'm Finally Comfortable With Messy Dreads

General Talk

Good on ya! It took me awhile to realize that my dreads didn't need to be perfect! Now I'm content with the way they are everyday. Love 'em!

Build up, how do I rid myself of this?

Dread Maintenance

I had this happen within the first couple months also. I think because my hair got so oily so fast that it happened. Do you have oily hair? How often are you washing? I find that if I wash less, I have more build up.

Introduce Yourself

You shouldn't use wax, or interlock. If you can, I'd suggest taking the interlocking out, and rid yourself of the wax.

If I wrap my dreads like this will they permanently become wavy like this?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Oh cool thanks! I will be sure to try it!

If you just want some waves for awhile ( similar to having loose curls or crimped hair) you could just braid your locs while wet, like after you wash them, and leave the braids for a day or two. When you take them out you will have nice waves that will last for a few days to a week. This is what my daughters do to change up their looks ( one is 19 and one is 14 ). Hope this helps.

Oh okay, well I want to wrap a couple anyways, but I like them being wavy and loopy!! I used to always be obsessed with the "perfect" dreads but they are so nice when they are able to do what they want! :)

I want my dreads to become a bit wavy. Not all of them just a few for fun. If I wrap them in hemp like the picture attached, will this happen? Or will they only be wavy while being wrapped? (Yes I know these dreads are fake. )

What am I supposed to do with my dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Thanks so much! I am leaving them alone now :) I hope they can recover well.

First off, I agree agree with everyone on here who commented. 2nd learn to stop doing eveything that's bad for dreads! Dreads don't need any maintenece besides washing and separting. Once you learn to leave them be and recover from the damage they will knot up. Time and paitence are virtues when it comes to dreads!

Okay awesome!! Thanks so much. I'll be sure to do nothing but wash and separate from now on.

u undid the interlocking (feding the dread thru the root) u stopped crochet and root rubbing

well..youll have some internal damage but not too bad to worry about as long as u stopped

as far as traction alopecia it takes a long time to get severe so even if you are in the earlu stages u will recover

D: Have I done any damage yet? Or do you think I'm fine if I stop now?
