Part In Hair

General Questions

Oh I definitely have a cowlick there but I didn't know it would do that. It's never been like that before I don't think but then again, my hair wasn't all connected (dreaded) so maybe I just didn't notice it. Also like I said before, my friend had this same issue but her's went away after her dreads became more mature. And you're right, the lighting is awful. I used my computer's camera for the first set and my itouch for the second that's why they look so different.

Part In Hair

General Questions

Haha I surely will when I get the chance. The only reason why I wanted to get rid of this part is because of this scalp spot haha..

Part In Hair

General Questions

Right now I have this weird spot on my part and it looks to me (looking in the mirror) like a bald spot but my brother said there's hair there haha. My friend Ashley had the same thing happen to her too but since she's a girl it never really crossed my mind that she might be going bald (since then it's gone away..) I want someone other than my brother to look haha but I'm afraid of the answer!!

Part In Hair

General Questions

Oh, I'm not concerned about it looking one way or another, I was just concerned about the weight it will become and I don't want it to pull the part and potentially make my hair thin out up there ya know? Mine are only 10 months so maybe it'll change. I wear my hair back for my job with a bandana pushing it back too so maybe that along with me putting it to the side most of the time will change it.

I was thinking of that American Idol guy Jason Castro and his dreads were very mature but he still had a part in the middle but I have no idea what he did to his. Maybe he kept it there on purpose! And maybe it won't do anything if mine stayed there.. I just get self conscious haha I don't wanna go bald!!

Part In Hair

General Questions

Hello all, it's been a little!

I've got a question... My hair was styled with a middle part before I had dreads. I didn't make it a point to dread it in a zig zag to get rid of it. What can I do now? I don't want to have a middle part anymore because I'm afraid as my dreads get more mature and heavier, it will put the hair and just be all around bad news. Please help me fix this problem!

Dreads or No Dreads, that is the question

That last paragraph is spot on my friend. :)

Justin said:

Everything about my journey has been a pro.

Sure there have been moments that I don't like the way they are looking but early into my journey I read a post from SE that said: "If you don't like the way they look, simply stop looking at them or only look at your shadow." It's the one thing that has always been in the back of my mind on those days when I actually do glance in the mirror and don't care for what's happening. Funniest part about it though, it is on those days that I tend to get the most compliments.

There are many aspects of a dread journey that could be construed as a con depending on the person and their experience with that particular issue. I think what you'll find in the end is the same thing I said in the beginning. There really are no cons because it is all part of a journey. What your journey is about will specific and personal to you and how you handle any perceived issues that arise will ultimately form your experience. It's not a con if you get past it and learn from it as well.

Society and it's preconceived notions of who we should be and what we should be doing have never sat well with me. For me, growing dreads were that last step to really letting go. The last step to becoming who I've always felt I was. Free

Dreads or No Dreads, that is the question

Helllllo there! Okay, so pros and conssss:

Pros: You'll easily be the coolest person in any room you're in, they'll change the way you think (because of the stigma they have), you'll attract amazing people who are unique, they're fun to watch grow, change, and do whatever they want, and other things that I can't think of at 2am haha..

Cons: They will put a damper on getting a job (but I've found that if you at least get an interview, what you say plays a big role if you go in with them tied back or something), there's a lot of bad information out there on ways to start them, maintenance, etc. (but it seems as though you've found a good website!), they take some time getting used to, (the natural washes, possibly dandruff, stares, assumptions, etc.) but if you can handle that, which you will because of what i said about dreads changing the way you think, then you'll be just fine..

In other words, you totally should get them. :D

Jamaican Mango and Lime No More Itch Gro Spray

Dread Products

Well, I had no specific reason to be using it. It was just a gift from my mom, who honestly saw the word "dread" on the bottle and thought it'd be a good gift for me haha. My head itches sometimes but it's not a big enough deal that a little peppermint oil can't fix. It said something about locking the dreads I believe... but again, I don't mind the journey. I actually wouldn't really wanna speed it up. I like the various stages. I just wanted to see if it would be beneficial or detrimental. I most likely will just have her return it and get some beads or something in it's place.

Thank you for the digging though. :D

I shall not use it then haha. I had a feeling it was designed for African American style hair anyway. Thank you! :D

Jamaican Mango and Lime No More Itch Gro Spray

Dread Products

Hello all! For Christmas my mom got me this spray (title) and I'm trying to decide whether or not to use it. I'm all for not putting any product in my dreads but if this stuff is fine then why not? The ingredients look okay and there aren't too many but there are very little reviews on this product on Youtube. Also, the two people that reviewed this product were of African American descent and I, of course, am not, so that I'm sure makes a difference too. If anyone has used this product and it has worked or not worked or maybe known people who've used this product, please let me know.

Also, my dreads are 4 months old.

Thanks and have a happy holiday. :)
