Lockin Up Shampoo.

Dread Products

Thanks Heather and Tia!

Tia I used to be a huge Tresemme fan, but after a while I found it really hard to wash out of my hair, so I switched. I always made sure I bought extra moisturising shampoo and conditioners cause I dye my hair so I don't think it'll be suitable really, but thanks for the tips! I might check out my health store once I gather some cash, but for now I think the bs will do :)

Lockin Up Shampoo.

Dread Products

Thanks you guys.

I knew about the shipping, but I really can't afford to buy in bulk right now. I will barely have enough money for the baking soda! XD

Seriously though, thanks for your help and I'll get started on the BS wash soon. Might save up for some of the bars if you guys think they're better than the liquid. Just thought I'd ask, seeing as it said it was especially for babies :)

Lockin Up Shampoo.

Dread Products

So I was looking at the dreadlock soap and the Lockin Up liquid shampoo that they say is great for baby dreads, which I will soon have. Only problem is, with postage to Australia it will cost me over $30 for one bottle which is far too much for this hippie :P

Just wanted to know if it's worth it, or if the BS wash will be fine for my babies when they're born.

Also, I've stopped using conditioner, should I wait til my dreads are in to start with the BS wash, or the sooner the better?

Thanks for your help!

Peace to you.

Beady beads.

Dread Accessories

I twisted and ripped an experimental dread in last night and I just whacked a bead on it to help keep it separate from the rest of my hair. I just wanted to know how tight the bead is generally meant to be. The one I used stays put but it's pretty easily moved around. I think it wouldn't take much for it to come out in bed or something, is this alright or should I go for a smaller holed bead?

Thanks and Peace :)

Hello

Introduce Yourself

Hi! I'm Bec, I'm pretty much brand new here. I'm 25 and from Melbourne in Australia :D

I don't have dreads yet, but I have wanted them forever. I'm at a weird stage in my life. I've found I'm not very happy, not hanging around the right people and not listening to my soul telling me what I need to do. I came across this site one night (well...very, very early morning...hello insomnia!) and I decided to make some big changes, and dreading up was going to be the turning point. I'm viewing them as much more than a hairstyle, they're going to be the beginning of happiness and peace and a huge extension and representation of what I've hidden for so long.

I'm so lucky in that I have the full support of my family in this. I've read a load of guides about how to break the news of dreading to family and friends, and it makes me sad for some people that they never get understood or properly accepted. My parents are the most amazing people on the face of the planet, and I'm so proud that they're eager to go on this journey with me. :D

So enough mush! I'm going to be putting them in using twist and rip. I started off thinking about backcombing but thankfully all your awesome advice has changed my mind! I should be doing it in a couple of weeks but I'm still researching and preparing. I put a little baby dread in last night so I can see how it goes. I have curly hair, which seems volumnous but is sort of thin when I straighten it, and so the dread I made is longer than my free hair! But I know it will shrink up.

I have already chatted to a couple of people here and everyone seems so nice and supportive and knowledgeable. I'm really looking forward to finally doing this, and using all your help and including you all on this awesome trip.

Peace! Bec.

x
