What is this? (White dots in the roots)

General Questions

Me too. I just ignore them. I wouldn't worry about it.

wearng your hair up...

Dread Accessories

When I wear my hair up I have to use a hair tie. My ends are too loose and wispy to use the dreads. I've tried and they just fall out within minutes. I recently wrapped two dreads, one on each side of my head, to use for tying the dreads back. Unfortunately my hair knelt escaping the wrap. What can I say, my dreads want to be free and not constrained! :) but I do use stretched out hair ties that seem to do the job.

"Your dreads just don't look like other people's."

Life Issues Facing Dreads

That's what I'm saying! :) But most people I run into think they are supposed to be instant, perfectly maintained and uniform. I agree with Haley - I love my hair more now than I have ever!

I just looked at your pics Panga...looks like dreads to me! :) And SE is absolutely correct...dreads are like fingerprints and unique to every individual! I was at Venice Beach yesterday and saw about 200 dreadies (the most I have experienced in one place!). I talked to alot of people too and all of them were very supportive and nice. They gave me lots of praise and encouragement. This one Jamaican guy told me..."You go on giving them luv sister, they grow, they be happy that way...you on the right path". It made me feel great. Even in a sea of locs, I never saw two heads that were the same...amazing.

I've had numerous people say the same thing and that they don't look like dreads at all.

just curious!!!

General Questions

I've had mine for over 1 1/2 months now and I have the same thing going on. The ones along the nape of the neck and behind my ears are getting tight and nicely knotted. I've attributed mine to sleeping on my back and side.

dreads and jobs

dreads jobs employment issues

I'm an accounting analyst at a fairly large corp. I had been there for 3 years or so before I started my tnr dreads a few years back. I only spoke with my boss about it and she was good with it. I have since taken out my dreads and am going the natural route and all appears to be good. However I would not put it past the higher ups and the owner to toss me based upon my appearance while saying it's something else like performance. I don't have a spiritual or religious reason for having or wanting dreads. I'm an atheist who just doesn't feel like combing my hair.
