Clarifying Shampoo.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

For me, it took me around a month to realise Dr Bronner's was leaving me residue. I thought the sectioning and all was progress, but noup... Just hair gathered with a layer of something (which collected dust really easy too), And I repeat, my water is soft, I diluted it as recommended in here... So for me it didn't work.

Actually you know what's funny?

Today I met one friend and I saw his hair really well sectioned, not greasy at all, so I asked him if he didn't brush and he told me "he forgets". Then I asked if he was growing dreadlocks and he told me "Absolutely not". And I was like... Then, what do you use to wash it? Because, for your information, if you haven't noticed, I have around 7 weeks trying to dread, I changed already of "washing" around 3 times and I look normal, isn't it?

And he told me... You know what I use for washing? A shampoo that is made here, one coming in a blue bottle. I wash it twice per week and usually don't comb it because I forget, but sometimes I do run my fingers through.

And I was like... Well, actually I used that simple shampoo before dreading and yeah, I remember it used to knot my hair A LOT. And it's really funny that I've been trying all this time to knot and nothing and you just wash with that and that don't have any intention to dread, you have even better progress than me.

And he just told me: Stop over thinking and leave it alone...

I think he's right.

Actually, today I felt the hair so oily (I washed on wednesday with just BS and last sunday with BS/ACV - this super diluted since I felt it over conditioned my hair) so I bought one bottle of that simple shampoo and decided to give it a try and stop worrying. Because actually, my hair had NEVER been oily until now that I've been changed to Dr Bronner's and BS/ACV. I really don't know what's wrong, honestly. Probably I am gonna use this shampoo and BS, like switching from time to time.

So let's see how it goes for me, hehehe. Wish me luck.

Clarifying Shampoo.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I wrote that shampoo leaves residue. My water is soft, so I guess that shampoo is not meant for using in the head.

I'm using now baking soda. I started with the recipe from here, but I think that amount of acv conditions A LOT my already smooth and straight hair. So I tried again with less... Until last time I tried with half teaspoon per 4 cups of water. And also read in some discussion Baba Fats recommended to use ACV once per week if your hair ended up kinda super condition and somehow "oily" (to reduce the use of ACV). I did. My hair still feels super soft and smooth, probably with some knots here and there, but I still look like if I'd been brushing.

What I was thinking is to use just baking soda and if I feel my hair dry, to use the ACV. I guess I have to kinda listen to my body in this case.

Organic shampoos also make my hair smooth and straight. Back in the days I used to use a cheap shampoo by a company from the country where I live, and I remember it used to knot my hair... Probably I am gonna still try with the baking soda for some time and then if nothing happens, I would try the cheap shampoo.

I wanna leave the dreadlocks shampoo as my last option because for me is kinda pricey to order. It's like, for being convenient to me, I had to order around 3 or 4 bottles, so the shipping would be not thaaaat expensive. Anyways, I would like to give it a try.

Have you use it? How it worked on you?

How about your progress? Are you still going ok despite the Bronner's issue?

Dr Bronner's and shampoo issues!

Introduce Yourself

Well, that's weird. I guess it is different for everyone it seems. I diluted it in the ratios recommended here and the water in my town is super soft (according to the chart). The washing has been my problem so far this time. I am going almost for my second month and no knot at all. :(

Dr Bronner's and shampoo issues!

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, actually I just read the water specifically in my town is soft, 1,5-2,7 odH. And I diluted the Dr Bronners in 12:1 ratio, so I don't understand why it left me residue. My hair is not oily, is normal with tendency to get dry sometimes. So I am gonna start using BS and ACV, hoping it works.I really don't want to give up and ending up trying the t&r. :/

Dr Bronner's and shampoo issues!

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, actually for what I've read, would be like if it's hard water, but I even got in the finnish webpage of the water services and they say it is soft, as far as I remember with a ph 8.3, if I remember correctly. The Urtekram shampoo is natural and organic, it foams but not like crazy like the artificial shampoos, but don't know if because it has aloe vera, would be not that good for early stages of freeforming. Or what do you think?Actually now that the time passed, my hair look kibda separated but loose. It seems the Dr Bronner's somehow left some residue which made my hair looked even more sectioned. But tomorrow I'm gonna buy the BS, by the way, in this early stage do you recommend me use ACV rinse too or just BS?Thanks for the advice!

Dr Bronner's and shampoo issues!

Introduce Yourself

Well, Today is supossed to be my 5th week of freeforming and all this time I've been washing with diluted Dr Bronner's. I've been noticed the next things:Is kinda hard to make good foam from it compared with other shampoos. I live in Finland and the water from here is soft. It foams, but I kinda have to apply it and scrib my scalp as fast as I can, otherwise it kinda turns to some kind of layer... Anyways, after rinsing, I still feel a layer of oil or something, I don't know what, but it feels like a layer of oil. What is strange, because my hair naturally tends to normal to dry. Then I noticed that my hair sectioned but each section felt and looked like glued from that "layer" of stuff, I did not see any knoting or why would those hairs would be glued together. Also noticed that is was waaaaay to easy to gather dust on my sections! My hair is dark, so imagine to have dust stick in your dark hair.So I decided to change and try another shampoo. Urtekram is an organic brand and I've used it before. I remember it left my hair feeling clean and all, so I decided to give it a shot now with my freeform process.Everything was ok until my hair dried... No sections at all.My hair feels clean, I haven't collected any dust in it. aso I'm kinda confused that I have some questions...Did it really sectioned or was it just "glued" hair with Dr Bronner's gunk?Probably I would finally to give a shot to BS and ACV washing, to see how it goes.I am kinda trying hard to be calmed and see it not like a big deal and preserve the patience.Soon I'm gonna keep you informed on how it went.I am using sea salt. I am sleeping over wool. I wash it 2-3 times per week, I don't towel dry and I just leave my hair alone... So, so far I think I haven't done anything wrong, maybe bad shampoo selection?Well, soon I'd tell you how bs/acv works for me.Regards!

Starting my natural journey, questions!

Dreading Methods

Well, I have almost 5 weeks. I am just now kinda aware of it, because now I am a practicant and soon I need to look for a real job, hope not to have problems with that, but just making that appart, I don't see any other issue with the process.I also use around 37.5 ml shampoo and 450 of water in a bottle and Because it has a small hole, I kinda can squish is near my scalp and rub it, because I noticed if I kinda put it first and then wait to rub, it doesn't make good foam (the water in my country is soft anyways)... also maybe if is one of those ketchup bottles with the tip, would be easier the application, so you don't mess with the rest of the hair. Also I just use a clip pin exclusively to hold my bangs (I used to have them short and they are growing now). Also use sometimes a loose "scarf" as a headband just when I feel my hair looks kinda "messy" and just to look "presentable" during my practices, after that time, I remove it and let my hair run free.I don't feel it would be a good idea to tie my hair now in this early stage, the more free it is, the better. Also I wash it every third day... and I just use the sea salt water twice per week just for one hour max.I think I haven't done anything else than that. I would like to try that liquid dread soap shampoo too, but I need to save for that, since the shipping for me would be kinda expensive, so maybe if I buy like 2 or 3 bottles, is not gonna be that bad.Enjoy the ride... I think mine is gonna last ages, but the way I've gone so far, has been good, I guess. ;)

Can I colour my hair

General Questions

I really like how look grey/white hair. And agree that is way better if you are dreading, to preserve your own colour... I think maybe even if you rinse super well, some of the product would get stuck in the dread and would not be good at last for the health of the hair.
