Unraveling roots

Dread Maintenance

well your 1st mist6ake is trusting a loctician! worse mistake you can make

next having tnem up all day will prevent them from locking or at least drasticly slow things

the reason the loctiician added hair is because the plan ahead for the balding they will cause.. prople who never let a loctician touch them never have to add hair

now the roots are supposed to be loose ..way looser then locticians force them to be (that's why 95% or higher that go to locticians get traction alopecia (well those stats apply specificly to African Americans who retwist or interlock)

but all dreads have loose roots if healthy, especially in the 1st 9 months! the roots tighten themselves and should never be tightened by force

over tight roots cause tension, another word for that is traction, traction that causes a specific type of balding traction alopecia the tension destroys the capillaries that feed the follicles

this is why moist who go to locticians eventually have more scalp then hair

the roots should have (in Caucasian ish hair) 1-3 inches loose in the 1st 9 months and tighten  to no tighter then 1/2 iinch from the scalp (if you can fit a finger under the roots to scratch the scalp then your ok)

African hair might have 1 inch or so in 1st 9 months then tighten to 1/4 inch

at n0 time should the hairs ever be being pulled perpendicular to the scalp like locticians do..and you should nnever use tight styles to "hold twists in" that only triples the tension on the scalp..and the treat odf traction alopecia

the best thing you can do is let them hang loose..they need to move to dread

also you have to accept the messy stage needs to be messy! they have to tangle and knot... this shouldn't be done by force but rather aalowed to happen gentlt..which means letting them get messy

you say they were started with braids well to stop being braids and become dreads..they have to unbraid..braids to dreads is actually slower then just letting it dread from nothing because they 1st have to loosen and fall apart to dread

Argggggggggggggggh mates

Introduce Yourself

rinse with water

and yea just leave the hairs alone..heres a lil trivia, every cell in your body is replaced every 7 years, every hair on  your head is shed every 7 years as well..so your hair (undreaded) can only grow to the lenghth it grows in 7 years

dreaded however since none of those shed hairs are lost they remain in your dread your dreads can grow much longer

every hair in my dreads has been shed 4 times yet remain in the dread

Question about washing method

General Questions

well the baking soda is harsh..it eats away at the skin.. it exfoliates by burning off the top layer of skin..that is most likely what you have is fried skin..yes it removes it by turning it into a paste but your burning off your skin

teatree rosemary essential oils treat dandruff, but each bottle is as  much as the teatree rosemary dreadlockshamopoo

if you cant afford them cause of shipping the teatree bronners (diluted) ids next best option

Help! My 7 year old dreads are falling off the roots!

Help! Save My Dreads

well i talked to my expert

shes got more experience in hair care then anyone i know..  she thinks you had them way over processed way under washed and likely  only the new growth can recover

your going to have to have a crash course in caring for your own hair..properly  that means no more paying anyone and being committed to doing whats healthiest

what you have is pretty fried and damaged and you might lose some more

how often were you washing them 1st off?  only when you had an appointment?

Help! My 7 year old dreads are falling off the roots!

Help! Save My Dreads

i expected much worse

ok heres what caused this and how to fix it

1 all the bleaching and dying caused chemical damage weakening the hair...that's only a tiny fragmant of the issue and not the major 1

2 that was not a "phenomenal loctician" in fact shes the reason your in such bad shape...no locticians are phenomenal (well 1% are ethical and would refuse to do what yours did)

1st the tight twisting caused traction alopecia

2nd the styles tripled the threat

3rd..sewing the styles in? does that seem like a sensible thing to do when the tight twisting and the tight styles cause traction alopecia?

your not too terribly bad off...yes the dreads are weak, and will break easily, but the scalp issues the biggest problem

so STOP GOING TO LOCTICIANS STOP TWISTINGF AND STOP STYLING

massage the scalp deeply daily while keeping all tension off the roots, no wearing anything at night, no braiding, no styling and no tightening the roots

in a year when they are fully recovered, you can style for events...but only for events, do not leave them in tight styles longer then a couple days..then take it out and release the tension

moisturizing shouldn't be needed often if you wash a minimum of weekly, more often is better

i will see if our best expert on traction alopecia has more input
