Hi! Anybody else with less than 20 dreads?

Introduce Yourself

look at hummingbird love gorilla on here

hes got massive dreads and no they thicken as they mature

2 inches is roughly the size of your wrist..so that's how thick each dread would be

btw

you never had to tnr or backcomb you could just let it section and dread itself

theres no reworking involved nature does it all for you

i wouldn't bother with the bands at all.

but guesstimate the sizes of the sections at the scalp

that's how thick the dreads will get eventually wich means they can take 4-6 days to fully dry inside wich is a high mildew risk

over 1 inch thick is risky yes some people have massive dreads 6 or more inches but often they are not very sanitary or healthy (google polish plait)

if you want really fat dreads and don't mind that they are extra hard to care for then by all means carry on...

but if you want to minimize the risk and make them more manageable and easy to care for then it would be best to start over now instead of later

just be aware of what thick dreads that size require

baba fats wrote a post or made a video i forget which about the special care fat dreads require

Hi! Anybody else with less than 20 dreads?

Introduce Yourself

those are going to be really really huge we have 1 woman with 13 dreads they are huge

the rubber bands must come out but i would very strongly recomend starting over with 40 or more

20 is really the minimum youd want and they will be pretty thick

yours already look real real thick and they are only going to thicken up alot more as they dread

rubber bands can cause over a dozen serious issues in a very short time..and do absolutely nothing good

remember what it was like to cut them, remember that sense of loss

remember the years you invested in them only to have that time lost

theres your passion ..  the time they took to mature, the years lost when you had to start over

just remember that this time you will be keeping them for decades to come..

Hello!

Introduce Yourself

you cant "see" the damage

but you say "i always use it" you always use it because your fixing the damage your causing  if you wernt doing damage youd never have to use it again

try this

take a single hair, make a loop and pinch the 2 loose ends...then try to pull it out of your fingers with the hook.. 9 times out of 10 it will break before pulling out of your grasp

crochet is extremely damaging every time you cannot avoid the damage

the only way to avoid crochet damage is to avoid crochet

Hello!

Introduce Yourself

crochet breaks tons of hair creating the loose hairs your fixing weakening them making them stiff and unnatural..interlocking causes tractionm alopecia and snap points..points at which theres no elasticity   and are at least 35% weaker

root rubbing can pull 1/2 the hair right out of the scalp

theres 1.2 million pages of peoples experiences with every method here

methods like crochet if done tight 1 single use can take over 3 years to really recover from..

before you experiment much more ..look around start with featured posts 1st but don't stop there ..

i might add a poll thing later  we can use for polls
