your dreads are only a few months old the backs the part you sleep on so will dread fastest, the rest needs no help just the same few months the back had.. a few months more then the back i mean..it will all catch up on its own in good time

Super happy with my progress since the shampoo change

Dread Maintenance

blow drying can cause heat damage..if you use high heart without moving it around enough

so either use a lower heat, or as i do i blow in short quick bursts while moving it around quickly

i'll blow for a few  minutes and wait awhile between each time i use it

so theres no prolonged excessive heat

it still has sulphates wich should be avoided

why don't you blow dry instead of going to sleep with wet hair

wash it as early as you can too

Washing - early stages

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

towel drying might  make it knotty more often then not, but then theres the risk of all at once erasing 3  entire months of progress

so its best to avoid it

don't be concerned about rinsing  you can use any  pressure you want.. some people use the flat palm thing but i think its way more effective to use fingertips and scrape at the scalp but only concentrate on the scalp  try not to mess with the hair at all if you can.. just get those fingers in there to scratch away any dead skin and dirt accumulation on the scalp

then rinse through

i actually use a hand held shower on the maximum pressure and the concentrated massage stream (i guess that's what it is) to power rinse  and hold it very close to my head

i think rinsing well is important i spend a lot of time rinsing very thoroughly

i don't use a towel at all anymore

how old are you? you do know that  in just a dozen or so years everyone near a coast will have to move?

things will be especially bad and drastically accelerated if we elect the wrong people this  year

80% of the population lives in areas that will be gone in the next dozen to 30 years.. so do you move before you lose everything to floods fires rising seas or earthquakes? or after you have nothing left to stay there for

its not a choice of if you move or not only when you move ..

keep in mind that we already past the point of no return...and still aren't doing much to fix things.. and even if we shut down every last industry, took every vehicle off the road  today..it  won't even begin to make a diference for 100 years (well  if the entire or 90% or more of the world went vegetarian/vegan  the threat level can be reduced in 10 years but still that's not enough to reverse the impact that's guaranteed to increase

it is a matter of fact that sooner or later you will have to move inland ...  and if you wait till 80% of the populations in a rush to do just that you'll be asking for trouble

think about it beachfront property is expensive now .. land in the mountains  or   central states cheap

what happens when that's reversed?

i just look at the facts, do the math and realize that  it's not something to worry about in the future but right now cause the futures really not so far away

dreadlocks grown from birth

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

i was just at the rainbow gathering in Vermont when i saw this kid with these absolutely awe inspiring dreads

he had the most amazing congos too

His name is gil, I asked him how old his dreads were and he said "15 years"

I didn't think about it till he walked away and asked someone "how old do you think that kid was' and they responded 'he is 15"

I later spoke to his mother who said he grew them from birth and was thinking of cutting his beautiful dreadlocks because oif all the attention he gets, (at rainbow gatherings 100% positive, outside the gatherings a lot negative) he was also tired of being stopped on the street every few steps by people wanting to take his photo

The funny part about all this is, every person i talked to who mentioned him, didn't talk much about his hair, but about how bright he was, how smart and talented

seems hes more well known (at least in rainbow circles) for his personality then his hair

His mom sent me this photo, I told him and her i would post these here and requested he join our community knowing the lovely wonderful people here would give him all the love and support he needs to keep his dreads, not only from birth..but till death

lets give him the support he needs to continue his dreadlocks journey throughout life and to help him deal with any negativity he may face

it will slow the process some but passing out from heat strokes not a better option

only recommendations, use your dreads not the band to tie it up and leave it down whenever possible..like indoors out of the heat

last recommendations not so much about dreads...

move away from the coast to higher ground (i got to do that myself) with climate change, and the increase in earthquakes from fracking  and all that, (like excessive heat and drought causing severe wildfires) cali isn't the safest place to live (from research the mountains in tennasee might be safest but that's factoring in the way overdue eruption of the Yellowstone super volcanoe)

Shampoo content problem

Dread Products

the sodium laurel sulphate is a skin irritant, that causes cancer dry itchy scalp etc if  you avoid that and hot water and wash often enough you shouldn't need any oils (or rarely)

i'm uncertain about the rest in that shampoo, it looks like very few ingredients so likely might be ok except for the sls which was recommended be removed from all products

heres the thing with sls..yes it can cause dandruff psoriasis etc  causing irritated itchy skin

but its also a cancer risk..though a minor 1 if you only used 1 product with sls

but if you read the ingredients in most cleaning products including toothpaste and mouthwash its in almost all of them

that makes it a significant cancer risk since its in almost everything you use

so because of that 1 single ingredient id not recommend it

you could most likely get dr bronners in Africa and use that for now (dilute it a lot ..like 12 ior more times more water then soap)

Starting out?

Introduce Yourself

well

theres no methods needed..you don't have to "get dreads" just grow dreadlocks

dreadlocks are your hairs natural state..  all hair wants to be dreadlocks it tries to be every day and theres a billion dollar industry just in preventing hair from dreading

the only method besides natural that's even worth considering for you would be twist and rip

but read the dreaducation page it covers the good and bad of all methods
