dreadlocks changing more than your hair

General Talk

Yeah I know what you mean Ever since i started i look at pic of me before and i almost dont recognize myself I've gotten used and have grown to love how it looks and it feels this is i how i should look

Whip Thehooper said:

They made me feel sexier. Which is funny, because I know a lot of people in the world would have said I was way sexier before with my sleek black hair that went all the way down to my butt. But the fact of the matter is, I didn't feel like "me" with that hair... never really did. That's why I wore it up in a messy bun for years.

Dreads made me, ME. I feel like ME now. My outsides match who I am on the inside. And while some might disagree that my hair is sexier now, the confident vibe I send out now definitely is noticeable.

@ Baba yeah its getting really hectic abd drives me insane most of the time but it's so worth it lol

@ Angel Yeah i used to be pretty crazy about my hair i used to be in that "scene" kinda style i guess you could call it so my hair was always straight and brushed and nice looking but now I'm just like meh my hair will do what it wants i think it likes the freedom and i think it looks soooo much better than it used to and I'm surprised its dreading as well as it is I mean its going sorta slow but with how my hair is real thin and straight/wavy so i figured it was gonna be awhile till my hair started to knot but I got my first dread in like 3 weeks and they just added on since then I have about i think at least 15 and i still have alot of loose hair but even thats starting to become scarce lol I cant wait to see what else they're gonna do when i hit my year mark :] but until then I'm just gonna enjoy the show

Oh man this post got a lot more replies than i thought it would xD but these are all great and a relate with a majority of what you guys are saying I guess no matter who we are our minds are gonna kinda go in the same direction kinda but yeah I'm about to be on my 7 months and i just started really thinking about it doesnt feel like Ive been dreading for that long it feels like just yesterday i stopped brushing but then I'll start to look through some of the pictures I've taken over the months and its weird to watch the change as amall as they may be its still a change and is still going today and while they change I'm doing the same. As my dreads change and grow so does my mind, body, and spirit I'm almost a completely different person than who I was and I feel like I'm finding myself and becoming who I am meant to be in this world

and sorry it took so long to reply on this havent been on much lately schools been very busy lately lol but lets see if we can get some more? :]

so I'm posting this out of curious but I'm wondering what has changed about yourself since you've started dreading whether they be major or minor so I guess I'll start

Since I've started dreading my self esteem has begin to rise and I dont find myself unattractive or a horrible person I'm comfortable with myself and am able to be who i truly think I am I feel as if my dreads are in extension of myself on the inside. theyve changed alot of my ideas on spirtuality and nature and living a happy simple lifestyle I've been through a lot of changes since I've started but these are the main ones in my mind but now then what about everyone else? :]

Never thought I'd say this but I want more loops and bumps!

General Talk

I love all my loops and bumps but mine are all starting to disappear which i guess is a good thing but I'm starting to miss them lol but i think loops and bumps give dreads amazing character and helps us be able to really watch see all the progress we make in our journeys

loopy love!! :]

its just not dreading.

Dread Maintenance

yeah that's how mine are i have a few decent sized ones up front but the rest are real skinny try a tam like SE said or well what helped me a little bit sleep with a headband that keeps your hair back while you sleep so it gets somewhat the same treatment as your back dreads but still give them the freedom to move and maybe try sea salt sprays or if you live near the ocean take a dip or that new locking gel stuff :]

Coming up on six months

Member Journals and Timelines

So On the 17th of this months I'll have made it half a year on my journey and its strange i was looking at all the pictures I've taken over the past 6 months and it's crazy how much of a change I've seen when i first started I only had about one dread withing the first 3 months but after that they just kinda shot out and now i can't even keep count cause some of them are real skinny I still have a bunch a loose hair but i like it gives it a nice mixture but it really seems like just yesterday that i started doing this and to think that its already been about 6 months is crazy and alot has happened with my dreads since then they look completely different then what they started out to be and i still have awhile till i really see what they will do and i cant wait to watch :]

the first pic is before i dreaded second is a month and the third is the most recent pic i have at about 5 1/2 months
