ok, started my dreads in the front with backcombing, then switched to the twist n rip thanks to SE. I have been neglecting ever since. I am now 3 weeks or so into my dreads and they have locked nicely except I have about six inches or so of loose hair at my roots, will this go away on its own or do I need to do something to fix it?

no, and i'm not sure why he got rid of them but now he has started balding and can't grow them anymore. he is convinced it's from the dreads.

I guess I should have mentioned that he used to have dreads, I did tell him yesterday that he was hurting my feelings. He apologized and said he would stop, but now I know how he really feels,and I can't forget that

Aww. *hugs* That's awful. He should support you, his beautiful wife, in such choices. Have you tried sitting him down and explaining to him why you are doing this? Have you explained that dreadlocks are a beautiful and natural process that can be beneficial mentally and spiritually? Perhaps he just doesn't understand. Is he one of those silly people that think dreadlocks are unclean and gross?
Keep your chin up! If he won't support this decision, we will =D

So I started my dreads about a week ago, and my husband has been making a lot of off hand comments that are hurtful. Besides telling him that it hurts my feelings (check), what else can I do? Anyone in the same boat as me?

My name is Nikki and I just started dreads a few days ago. I have worn my hair a variety of ways throughout the years and recently decided to try a couple of dreads, just in the front. Well, after a couple of days of twisting and rubbing on the 4 originals, I changed my mind and decided to go with smaller ones all over the front. After spending the day researching this forum I stumbled upon, I decided to go all the way. I wish I would have found this site sooner, so I would have avoided some mistakes I made. I'm excited to see where the dread road leads!
