Heartbroken

Dread Maintenance

After two months of having TNR'd dreads, I am no longer a "dread-head". They have ALL come undone. In the first few days after they were done the section of my hair at the nape of my neck came undone and wouldn't hold when I re-did them, so I just let those go and figured in a few weeks of NOT brushing, they would knot up on their own.... after two months without a comb or brush going through them, they were still all silky soft and untangled. (WTF?!) The rest of my hair has been gradually coming undone for about a week or two, starting at the end and working up to the root. I am seriously considering letting my hair get a bit longer and then backcoming dreads in cause I really really miss them!! I was down to "washing" my hair 1-2 times per week with BS and EO. I just don't know what I did wrong. Maybe I'll get a wave perm put in my hair before the next attempt, I dunno. I DO know that I HATE my hair now. I was really loving my dreads. :-(

Introduce Yourself

Welcome!! I hope you enjoy your stay. I'm relatively new to dreads myself. I had a twist and rip set for two months before they came undone and now I'm doing the "neglect" method. :)

Itchy and flakey.... what's going on?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I'm sure there are other posts about itchies and flakes, but I haven't the time to look through them right now, so I'm making a new post. I have been "washing" my hair with BS for about 2 weeks now. I am not using the ACV since it was too conditioning to my hair. I normally have a really oily scalp and I remember that Panterra said that oily scalp meant that the hair is too acidic, so I was using the BS to try to restore the PH. My hair isn't as oily now (it is still adjusting to not using shampoo though). I'm "washing" in BS every few days and putting Essential oils in it too. Yesterday, I noticed that it was kinda flaky and pretty itchy, what can I do for that?

I have the way curly dready on it's own hair, and right now I wish I woulda sectioned it w/ TnR or something simply because I have to seperate daily sometimes more they are just EATING eachother up, and have had a couple sections I could not section, and one I did a no no too I know but it was bothering me it was two dreads that half way down combined into one and try as I might to seperate them I just took the scissors to them (shhh don't yell) I have some real nice sections very defined but so many of them are so curly they are just curling around other dreads and its crazy....but after this last scissor excursion I've decided to be less worried and if that happens again I'ma just let it be, I think I just got scared because I've been seperating soo much more often than others seem to have to! All in all, the journey is different for us all and I love all dreads that are "healthy!"

Mine are product free, I just TnR'd them. I do NOT have the patience to grow them for a year or more, this is a style that I've wanted for over 15 years. I'm happy that you think yours are done the "right" way, but I think the "right" way depends on the person who wears them.

I have been growing my neglect dreads for over a year now and still have some loose hair. It takes much time, especially for straighter caucasian hair like mine. I love knowing that mine are 100% without wax or any other product other than BS and ACV wash twice a week. It really takes time, in the end you will be so happy and proud of yourself that you did it the "right" way which is natural :)

Thanks Angie. :)

I agree, Heather, either way they are started, we are all on the journey together, to have beautiful dreads in the end. :)
