Wanting to get started

General Questions

I will look more into the twist and rip method. Im not going to use any wax products or anything, that is for sure. The only issue that makes me weary of twist in rip is that I read that its much harder to do with thicker dreads... but if its possible then i may try, I dont want super thin dreads i guess.

Wanting to get started

General Questions

Also, as I said, I would like a good amount of control over the size of the dreads and such so I can keep them fairly neat and uniformed, i backcombing the best way to achieve this?

Wanting to get started

General Questions

I started growing my hair out in August so I could get dreads, Ive wanted them for a while but never got around to it. My hair is right around 6 inches right now, give or take, and I want to get started, but dont want to get started too early. I know its possible to start dreads at this point, my big worry is the length will not allow me to do what I want with them. I am planning on backcombing my hair, as I want a lot of control over the dreads, but I just dont want to do that and end up having my hair stick up. I understand, especially at the beginning, if they are a bit wild, but I want them to be able to lay down. Do you think its possible at the current length for them to lay down after backcombing or will the stick straight up? Any advice is welcome, I kinda only half way know what I am talking about.
