We need a "My hair won't naturally dread" support group!

Dreading Methods

Concerning the use of rubberbands.

Dread Maintenance

yes, it would work good if you wanna make only one dread with them.
I had 4 small dreads that came together as a congo and just by using rubber bands I made one big dread.

Don't put them too tight andkeep them onfor at least 3 weeks or more.

Theres no problem with wearing a bandana I used to wear one all the time when my dreads were shorter.Never had any dread problems because of that.

beads. loops. bumps. applications of the like.

Dread Accessories

With or without beads the loops in my dreads did the same, they just compressed on the dread.I don't find the right words to explain it in english but anyways that's what it does...

Introduce Yourself

Honestly I can't see how my dreads could break?
I probably dont use the crochet like most people do.
Cause it really does'nt break my hair at all.

The only thing I notice is, if you don't use it reasonably you dreads will look like they have been knitted .
Once in a while i like to give a gentle touch of crochet just to put the new hair in my dreads.
It Gives a cleaner look, wich is good when you work in public.

Anyways let's not start a debate :P

OH et Merci, Meg pour le bienvenu!

Introduce Yourself

Yo!Im Vince. My friend Remiss introduced me to this website just the other day.Ive been growing locks for a bit more then a year and a half.Techniques used: When I wash them I use residue free shampoo (this does not happen often), Never used wax, Backcombed at the beginning, once in a while I use a crochet, I used my hands a lot, But! swimming in the Atlantic ocean and letting them dry to the sun was the best thing I ever did to my dreads.Oh! and I don't know why, but the smoke from a campfire always make them feel good.So that's pretty much it,Feel free to look at my pictures and see the progress from the first day up to now.PEACE!

7 months - loose hair questions (i know - ugh not another one)

Dread Maintenance

I sometimes wear the panthyhose when I wash my dreads but it don't get your scalp and dreads as clean as without. You don't have to wash your hair everytime you take a shower too.I wash my hair once a week in the winter and 3 times a week in the summer. It depends on your lifestyle, if you do a lot of physical activities or you work in a barn you might want to wash them everyday. If not there is no need to wash more then once or twice a week.Ive been doing this for almost 2 years now and my hair never smell bad or never feel greasy.Try some no pull rubber bands.By holding the hair toghether it will cause it to dread.Yes I know, hair doesn't grow with rubber bands on... so it's not natural, but it works and won't do any damage to your hair.peace!

is it bad to wash dreads everyday O__o

Dread Maintenance

Yes there is.
Even wearing a hat or beani a few hours after washing is taking risks.
The best thing to do is to wash em in the morning to make sure they have enough time to dry.
