Ur dreads

Introduce Yourself

I backcombed and crocheted. Then only crocheted my roots once a month then stopped crocheting all together and now my roots loc on their own. All i do is wash once a week and separate and occasionally palm roll. I use a mixture of hair locking gel and aloe to smooth down any wild hairs and to protect my dreads from extreme dryness.

I'm New-Pics Of My Hair. Im going natural

part of the process is trying different things until you find what works for you. while working as a juvenile correctional officer i had a couple of youth who were rasta and thats how they started off their locs in the facility. they didnt want their hair twisted all the time so they did that method so that they would not get huge congos without all the separating. their hair texture allowed their hair to form their own separations when rubbed. but you dnt have to do it that way. its just a way ive seen that was proven to work in that environment. soooooooooooooooo dont knock it until you try it.

well, you could leave the twists in and wait for them to lock and never get them twisted again or if you do wash the twists out just rub your hair (im not sure if its clock-wise or counter clock-wise motion) and your hair will naturally section off into little balls or coils. for the first few months wash your hair with a stocking cap over it so that you dont undo any knotting of the hair you have achieved. Overtime your hair will lock and you will no longer need the stocking cap.if you dont like the locking gel try aloe gel to keep your hair in place until it matures.

How many days can you go without washing your dreads before they start to smell?

Dread Maintenance

It depends on your lifestyle. If you workout often then they are going to smell a lot sooner than others who don't. Mine begin to smell like gun powder after a week lol. Also, if you smoke and are very active that complicates things even more. If you can smell your dreads, so can everyone else. I would wash no less than once a week :) Your dreads will thank you

them roots

Introduce Yourself

alot of people say to ignore the loose roots but sometimes that can be hard to do. a trick i learned is to place your dread between your pointer finger and middle finger at the base of the root and squeeze it to hold it in place.then pull all of your loose hairs up along the dread and place your free hand with your pointer and middle finger around the dread also. with your top hand, push down and go in a counter clockwise motion about 7 or 8 times with a little speed but not too much as this would cause alot of friction and damage. ill find a vid link also. my description maybe hard to follow lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1QsXEVQEzU it may also be under pinch rolling dreadlocks
