boston area loc heads

General Talk

hey everyone i am from the Boston area (swampscott) and i was just wondering is there any good dread shops in the area that you would recommend to get dread stuff like tams and beads and other such things to style up your dreads. my dreads are still very young about 3 weeks old.

and on a side note to give you all an update on my dreads i ended up splitting a bunch of them up so i went from having 32 dreads to having about 50 dreads i put bands loosely on the tips to help keep the sections right and wen the bands fall out that will be it.i have been washing them 2 times a week for now and it seams as if they are still dreading up like they should so i am happy for that.

ok here is another thing my buddy who did the backcombing for me decided to add loc extensions in his dreads they way he did it was get the synthetic hair dread it up and then he crochet the tips together i did a lil reading up in putting in extensions and a lot of ppl said that was the best was to do it .... my hair is just over 3 inches and i was wanting to do it as well so i can get out of the short hair stage ... so question on that one is good idea or not

so if anyone has any advice for me i am all ears and i am hoping there is some type of shop around here so i can get some stuff or even a smoke shop that sells stuff would help

thanks a bunch

Does separating take a step backwards?

Dread Maintenance

hey just wanted to say that a few days ago i seperated a bunch of my fatties .... i went from having 32 dreads to about 50 from just splitting the ones that wanted to split .... and since my dreads are not even a month old yet it made it easy to do ... they are you and mine frayed out as well ... i ended upp putting bands on the tips to try and have them stay in there sections most ppl advise noit to do this but they are lockiing faster then they did without them .... and another thing i have been doing is sleeping with a loose wool hat on ... i think from the static from the wool it is helping them dread up faster ... and the frayed parts have settled down and locking back in again ... and since i seperated them they are now laying down flat ... and i dont look like a "pineapple head" as my gf says lol good luck bud

thanks for all the quick replies ppl ... just a heads up from the time that i posted this till now a dread came apart all the way so i got a lil upset about it and decided to crochet it just a lil to knot it up a bit ... i also just washed my hair and its 930 at night ... oops ... but i have a towel around my head at the moment to get out some of the extra water that was left ... one other thing i was givein a tip about spraying them down with a lil salt water to tighten them up a bit good thing or not?

Introduce Yourself

hey everyone im the new guy just wanted to post and say whats up to everyone

lets see a lil about myself im new to the whole dread world my dreads are only 9 days old now

i started them by back combing them just wanted to get a head start on them

i am thinking of just letting them do what they want to do now

one of my fatties decided to split into 3 diff ones kinda pissed me off but i know now that they all have a mind of there own

i cant wait for them to fall lol back combing them kinda made them stand up lmao

so here are a few questions

i know that a lot of ppl here like to go the natural way

but i want to crochet a few of the loose hairs that are just hanging out but dont know how to do it stilli dont wnat to crochet the hole thing just the fly away ones good idea or no?

when should i wash my hair like i said its been 9 days since i got them put in and about 16 days since i washed my hair

i have the dr bronners peppermint shampoo good or not

so i think thats about all i have to ask fornowso any advice i will take

and thanks to anyone that writes back
