dreadlocks and balding

Dread Maintenance

I actually use a pitcher and just pour it on. Although I do have some of those bottles. May just give it a try! I really dont mind the time it takes though. Ive been dealing with some dandruff and I like to make sure im getting most of it out, and that im rinsing everything out really well. I only do a full on wash about once a week so I like to give em a very good wash.

Dread Maintenance

@SE I would probably be more accurate to say between 2 and 3 Tbls per cup. @ Tyler I am by far not graceful enough (or tall enough at 5' 2") to wash in a sink. I leaned my head over the tub to pour it on, then wrapped in a towel while it soaked. I then jumped in the shower. I find that I do a much more thorough job in the shower. I usually section off my dreads with clips or something before getting in so i can concentrate on one section at a time.

Dread Maintenance

I know when I first started doing the BS rinse I was wondering why I wasnt feeling the 'tingle' everyone else talked about. Then I tried carefully measuring 3 Tbls BS to a cup of water. DAMN the tingle! I hadnt been mixing it NEAR strong enough. I poured it over my head and then wrapped it up in a towel. About 4 minutes is all I could handle before I had to wash it out. But after that I can say my scalp was thoroughly clean!! So fresh and so clean clean :)

Confused about washing

Dread Maintenance

funny you mentioned the nuclear plant. 5 minutes after i read that, it was mentioned on my local news. they said something like its not leaking anymore, but they have 3000 people working in round the clock shifts in efforts to clean it up.

Confused about washing

Dread Maintenance

i would say i wash mine on average every 7-10 days. i simply dont need to any more than that. i know its time when i either a) am seeing some dandruff, or b) get the itchies. i dont wash any more or less than when i didnt have dreads. my hair has always gotten too dry if i wash too often.

dreading my bangs??

Introduce Yourself

i went thru the same dilemma. at first i dreaded them. then undid them. then dreaded them again. now i have them undreaded and have decided i like them much better loose. when i want them up and out of the way its easy to just braid them and treat them like another dread.

General Talk

thank you angel. ive been stewing on that reply myself. if calling a 15 yr old girl 'disgusting' for making a mistake makes you feel good, thats disturbing. we have all been young and dumb and made stupid mistakes. most of us have learned some very hard life lessons by way of those mistakes, at least i can say i have. just because this family may not have a 'warm environment', as you put it, in no way makes them disgusting. (actually you have NO idea what this families home life is like, so even making that assumption is ridiculous.) if you want to disagree with the fathers actions, thats one thing. but attacking the little girl is crossing the line.

like i said. "it all depends on the standards of discipline people are used to being held to."

That's not what I said, I said culture big difference. National identity currency boundaries and culture is not the same thing and yes it does have a lot (culture) to do with it. Wrong is not just plain wrong as you put it is a question of belief and is highly influenced by culture. I am not arguing that what she did is right or wrong or what he did is right or wrong ( like I said not enough info IMO) what I am saying is that how we react to the video (this is what thediscussionis about) is influence by back ground ( how we were raised) and culture is a part of each andeveryone back ground.

I don't think this has anything to do with national identity or currency boundaries. Wrong is just plain wrong. So is the reaction sound or over the top?

I don't have a gun but if I was in that guy's shoes I'd have taken a screw driver and taken the thing apart piece by piece right in front of her. We could always use the pieces for art projects. My husband makes custom toys for clients and man can he upcycle!
