Braids at root?

Help! Save My Dreads

Hello,I was wondering if my hair will still dread if they are braided at the root only.I've been doing the neglect method, washing with bs/acv (with essential oils) two times a week. Read here somewhere that braids don't look natural and I was planning to just cover them up with some beads when they get pretty visible.Or should I just redo them? I've them for about a month now. Also, I have a question with the residue left behind after washing.I read here that it's bad to rinse out the BS with the ACV, but I did that once since my scalp was caking. I felt that the layer of white stuff was the baking soda and the chemical reaction between the BS and ACV will get rid of the residue. Afterwards, I would rinse with cold water and rinse my hair with diluted ACV. Is that bad? I think it worked in getting rid of the caking, but I'm not too sure.Uhh, and I attached a photo with me and my dreads. Don't know if it will help but I guess it's better than nothing for now.I have a camera but since I lived in Korea for a while I don't have a converter yet so I can't charge the batteries. I'm the guy in the left btw and the thing I'm wearing was for church haha...........

Decided to redo dreads

General Questions

I see.

"Would my dreadlocks be more natural and healthy for my hairif I just leave the crocheted dreadlocks to recover or comb those out and redo them?"
-sorry about that. I was in a hurry since I don't have much time on the computer. What I ment was, would it be better to just leave the salon made dread to recover or to just redo them.

Sorry I haven't been able to post pictures.I have been really busy with work. Also, I'll be leaving South Korea tomorrow to go to Guam. I'll post some pictures once I get settled on Guam.

Thank you so much again for all the great advice. I've been redoing all the salon made dreads and also plan to go natural.

Decided to redo dreads

General Questions

I posted a question titled "Salon Nightmare?" a couple days ago and after reading the responses, I decided to redo my dreads.

I found out that they braided my hair at the root and used the interlocking method afterwards. Then they placed an extremely tight rubber band at the start of the crocheted locks.

The method I chose is the twist and rip method and I have a some questions I want to ask to figure out if I did it correctly and other things...

I finished redoing five locks today and I've noticed a lot of loose hair around the root of my newly done dreads. Is that normal?
Also, is it normal for the dreads formed from the twist and rip method look kind of like a christmas tree and there to be a lot of loose hair on my scalp (neer the roots of the new dreads)?
Finally, (sorry for asking so much questions), a lot of my hair got damaged by the salon and as I was combing out the dreads they made a lot of hair fell out. I did the twist and rip method with the leftovers and they are kind of thin. I do not really care that they are thin, since I'm going to allow my dreads to form by themselves (which I learned from this wonderful site). Would my dreadlocks be more natural and healthy for my hairif I just leave the crocheted dreadlocks to recover or comb those out and redo them?
How the salon did my hair: I found out that they braided my hair at the root and used the interlocking method afterwards. Then they placed an extremely tight rubber band at the start of the crocheted locks. They just combined all the bad ways to make a dread on my hair... ='(

Salon nightmare?

General Questions

Thank you very much for the help.
I'll be reading the forums for the crochet recovery.
I'll post up some pictures as soon as I can.

Going back to the salon, however, will be hard for me because it's very far from my work.
I used my vacation days to get my dreads so it won't be easy for me to go there again.

Salon nightmare?

General Questions

Hello,

I find it unfortunate that I find this site after getting my dreads done in a salon...
They wanted to perm my hair but I said no.
Instead, they back combed it and crochet my hair into pseudo-dreads.
I had my glasses off when they were doing it and it seems like the roots of my dreads are braided...

how would I go about fixing the root problem and the crochet problem?

sigh... why didn't i find this site earlier?
