Introduce Yourself

Hey, Katryn! Your hair looks awesome!! It'll be grand either way! I kept bangs for myself because I like the texture contrast! Yours will look fantastic no matter what you choose!! :D

Sleeping with dreads.... What's best?

Dread Maintenance

Hey, Shane!! I'm at 8 months now ... been an amazing journey so far!! I got a thick wool sweater at a second hand store and slipped it over my pillow like a pillowcase. So, instead of sleeping with my dreads in a tam, I sleep with them loose and unbound on the wool "pillowcase". It seems that it's made a nice difference in them tightening up!!! I love the feeling of them being free at night and as strange as it may sound, I have some really crazy beautiful dreams of me with super long dreads when I sleep this way!!! Best to you! :D

Beads and Your Dreads

Dread Accessories

Hello! I put beads in my hair very early on in the process, and now I can't get them out! Once the locs started looping and bumping, which they did very quickly, I was no longer able to slide the beads off, let alone even move them on the dread! I cracked off several of the ceramic ones, but there are two metal beads that I'm either going to leave on forever, or have to use metal cutters to get off! I like the idea of being able to remove them when the mood strikes, you know? I gather beads and trinkets from everywhere I go, and love natural items like shells and wood or pieces of scarf and fabric, and leather and feathers! Have fun!! :D

Odd Washing Question

Dread Maintenance

Rachel ... that's gnarly!!! :D Yikes!! Does Jimmy John's have those plastic bottles that have a long neck with a pour spout? Many restaurants I've worked in use them to hold salad dressings and such ... you can screw the top off, make your mixture, then screw the lid back on and the mix will come out the nozzle at the top. Might be an easy one-handed way to handle things for a while! Although SE's suggestion of a juice pitcher is great, too, especially if it has a handle!

Good fortune ... looks like it hurts!

i don't get it.....

Dreading Methods

Yeah, she is totally gorgeous. As are YOU and everyone else here in this process and journey! That's the beautiful thing about dreads is that they really manifest people's personalities and only serve to make them more beautiful! Individuality is such a great thing! Love what Shanxon just said about appreciating even more the things we've had to wait for or work for!! I can see you, Heather, with an amazing head full of dreads with all kinds of bright colored beads in them!!!

DAY 262!!!

Dreading Methods

Hey, Nicole!! Awesome awesome awesome!!! ;) Truly, they have such great character and color and I love the non-uniformity of it all! Once those sides do start going to town, they'll shrink up and match the rest, I bet! You are gorgeous!!

I don't think they'll be scrawny at ALL!!! Totally believe you'll get the fullness you're after!!! It's been fun reading everyone's responses to your post ... you are loved and supported and everyone is pulling for you!!!!!

i know. it just hard when i pics like yours or knottysleeves and think i'm never going to have that. i definitely don't have as much hair as you do so i just wonder how it will all work out in the end. i don't want pitiful, scrawny dreads. i was hoping that the dreadlock will give me the fullness i never had.

Oh, Heather ... hang in there!! You've come so far, and as KnottySleeves said, you've been so patient!!! Seems like if the ones you backcombed are doing well, it might not hurt to give the rest the same impetus! You are such a beautiful girl, no matter what your hair looks like! I would echo SE's advice about having pride in knowing that you're doing this for you, and that your beauty radiates out from your heart and smile!! Sending you all kinds of good energy, my friend!!! ;)
