Best method for me?

Dreading Methods

yeah soaringeagle mentioned doin twists.sounds about right for your hair.twist your hair into sections then just keep them separated after that.from what you said about your hair, i think they should stay together but yeah its important to separate and youll probably have to keep on top of that during the beginningthe less dreads you have = the easier it is to keep up on separating

Flirting with the idea of cutting ,y hair.

Introduce Yourself

my friend just cut off his dreads for new years i think they were about 6 or 7 years. he also felt like he needed a change. he was pretty angry at himself for doing it though. i dont think his hair was the problem he needed to change.anyways what im trying to say is- maybe you should look a little deeper and see if the issue lies somewhere else. im sure for everyone here dreads are a huge impact on our lives/self image. i literally get identified by them. therefore i think that the idea of cutting your dreads would come as an automatic solution to the feelings of needing a change in your life/self image because 1: it would cause a lot of impact (not necessarily bad or good impact, just impact in general) and 2: it's such an easy thing to change, all you need is scissorsdo what your heart tells you to do. sometimes your mind just cant figure out why the heart feels the way it feels and you probably shouldnt waste your time trying to figure it out either. my advice to you is to quiet all the rest of your thoughts in your mind til you can hear what your heart wants you to do (this usually happens like right before i fall asleep). listen to it and youll know what to do

Introduce Yourself

this is your trusted web link!

on the top menu thingy.. read dreaducation and the FAQ's. should be a good start

look under the groups and theres a group for the baking soda wash. itll give you a good recipe on there.

and my job is fine with my hair. im a waitress. but there are plently of people with plenty better jobs than mine who have dreads :)

completely agree! salons really cant do anything good for dreads that your can't easily do yourself.

i forgot about backcombing.. how do you do a combination of backcombing and tnr??? haha im picturing a disaster in my head...

ummmm but yeah backcombing might be great for you aaron! i can see it being easier than twist and rip cause youd have to get those pretty tight for them to have any hold.

ohh okay. just seemed like itd be difficult to do with such short hair.

i think you may need to recruit a friend to help ya especially in the back if you go the twist and rip route.

maybe not though :)

se he said his hair is only 4 inches long.

i dont think twist and rip would be very effective?

unless you wanted smaller dreads..

just go natural :)

Decided to redo dreads

General Questions

well im not an expert but it sounds like your dreads will do better now that you redid them... the tight braids at the roots sounds awful. probably hurt too.

obviously your dreads are ganna be a little thinner but besides that, your hair will be hair and dread if you dont mess around with them.

this christmas tree reference throws me off a bit though. pictures???

and loose hairs are nothing to worry about :) thheyll sort themselves out

dealing with ignorance

General Talk

yeah ihad to deal with this over the holidays. i wore a hat though :)

just ignore, and go off in your own world a couple days a year. ive been doing it since a kid when it comes to my family so why should it be different now? apparently your family is judgmental and that didnt just come about when your dread journey started. im sure youve been listening to it forever. youve had to figure out a way to tune them out by now.

then step 2- vent! and you got that down so u should be okay. its only a couple days a year u gatta deal with it.

ummm what works for me: i smoke before i get there :) try not to arrive too much before dinner starts, then stuff my face with food until i get tired lol so then i drowsily watch everyone open presents and listen to their stupid pointless banter. then i take a nap and think of how much worse christmas could be and it makes me feel better.
