9 months neglect/wool rub

Member Journals and Timelines

Aloha!

Third attempt at dreads, had to cut previously due to scalp issues / being a bitch. lasted about 6 months both previous attempts. Scalp issues pretty much under control and no issues with work or anything so this will be my first legit dread set. Been 9 months so far, pretty happy with the progress. went with neglect/wool rub because as i started these with short ass hair. nuff jibber jabber, heres the timeline!

Approx 1 month pre dreads:

4 months

5 Months

7 Months (they are heaps boofy and lame coz my hair is short hence the dreads dont have much weight and just go up lol)

9 months - starting to look ok

Hope u enjoyed!

Dread Maintenance

Hey dude, i posted a similar topic a few weeks ago. my lower & lower/sides were taking ages to dread. Just letting u know that last week some stage i developed 2 new knot formations that have gotten bigger and will become full blown dreads. So bear with it, it definately does happen at some stage

Why Does Our Hair Knot

General Talk

Hey guys, just a random/curious question: Why do u think our hair knots? In the natural world it seems that everything does what it doesfor a reason, obviouslyeveryoneshair knots (at different paces) but i am curious as to why 'nature' intended our hair to knot? maybe its just the laws of physics (not sure which law) but cripes the amount of times my wiring (for tv/games/chargers etc) gets knotted up, its quite similar to a dread imo.

Anyways, what do u guys think out of curiousity?

Undreaded Tips

Dread Maintenance

Aloha all,
As per the topic title, im having trouble with my tips. Been neglecting for 7 months-ish and most of my head is knotted up and sectioned off. But the tips are just so undreaded and dont seem to be making any progress.

I understand that they will grow and the tips will look shorter in proportion with the respective dread that it has grown with. But Is there a good way to knot up the tips quicker? have tried backcombing the tips but they always come out. BTW i don't want blunt tips. i love wispy tips but ATM its just loose hair.. here is a diagram(stole this from 'matthew', cheers:D):

- =dread.
~ =your regular hair.

-------~~~~

Most of them are like this which ultimately leads to my hair looking undreaded and just straight up poofy.

I also started neglect w/ pretty short hair (it was like 2-3 inches maybe shorter)

Also while im here, im having mad trouble with the hair on my hair line, like from the top of the ears down to the base and back up to the other ear. None of this hair is dreaded and it basically makes it look like i have a gay mullet lol. any tips for this area? could once again be a short hair thing but looking at 'eyeheartchrist's' neglect on youtube my progress is pretty similar to his however the hairline hair isnt dreading at all.

Essential Oils Not Working Very Well

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Yeah i might double the BS next wash.. however from my experience so far, the stronger the baking soda, the worse my scalp gets :S lol. but i will still give it a go next wash.. im gonna buy some teatree too and give that a whirl..

the only thing that seemed to work well was a very concentrated mix of ACV (before i had this set of dreads) @ like 50% water 50% ACV, but this is Wayyyy to conditioning so its really out of the question at this stage of my journey (3.5 months in) oh and i let the BS soak for a few mins - like 1 or 2

Essential Oils Not Working Very Well

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Hey guys, i recently bought some peppermint and rosemary essential oils. been experimenting the last few days with them to try and find the best combo, but to little avail (so far)so atm im putting these concoctions into a spray bottle and spraying it onto my scalp in the showerBS Wash - 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda (5ml) : 400ml (13.5oz) Water : 5 Drops Peppermint : 12 Drops Rosemary - Letting this sit for a few minutes then rinsingACV Rinse - 50ml ACV (1.69oz) : 350ml (11.83oz) Water : 3 Drops Peppermint : 6 Drops Rosemary - Letting this sit for 1 minute then rinsingFollowed by a cold water rinseUsing these dilutions, i still get itchy the next day which usually causes me to wash the day after (so im washing every other day at the moment). Im still getting scalp pains when i sweat.Im thinking the peppermint could possibly be too drying at 6 drops so maybe i should cut it down? i was also thinking i could add some teatree? would this help or just add to the drying? could anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks :)

Intense Scalp Pain when i sweat

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

naaa it wouldnt be the wool.. as i stated before this is not my first time dreading.. this problem started on my first neglect set (when i started using dr bronners) but SE i agree it has to be Cloggged Sweat glands on my scalp.. because this pain doesnt occur anywhere else but my scalp.. can u recommend somethng that might once and for all un clogg them? maybe a super deep baking soda clean will do it
