having a "will my dreads ever recover from crochet" day...

Dreading Methods

the wonderful thing about dreads is the changes over time. They tighten and loosen on their own.( I had never heard of the crochet method til i joined this site, but i did do some back combing). If you love your dreads be patient with them. don't comb them out because of their texture. Some people's hair is just softer than others, whether they have dreads or not.

lice prevention

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

when my children were little they got lice once. because i could not see my whole head and a few loose roots look way too much like nits, i combed out my first set. Damn those bugs. I waited many years til they were older to dread again. But i catch myself sitting on the edge of the chair in doctors offices and glancing at the heads of small children before i pick them up. I don't hug as easily at festies. I can't help it. It is my ONE big fear. I just really really don't ever wanna loose my dreads again. I use a few drops of tea tree every time i wash my hair to keep the critters away, but i don't really know how effective it is. I would love for you to make a preventative!!!! it would make my life a whole lot nicer :)

crochet dreads idiots on youtube

Dread Maintenance

there is a major inconsistency here. I went to youtube out of curiosity to view the comments there. The Inditribe stated that crochet doesn't cause problems because "I should know, I've done it for six years. In the video he wrote "I've never crocheted anything before these dreads, it's easy to learn." Which is it? Never done it before or done it for 6 years?

I dyed my dreads!

General Talk

I love it! my hair is so dark that i could not achieve colored dreads without bleaching them first...and i won't do that. but your hair color is perfect for it. is the color permanent or temporary?

does anyone get snaged on tree limbs as much as i do?

General Questions

in the woods were i take my dog every evening there are lots of locust trees...those trees have caught my hair more times than i can count. but my biggest snag was in a set of wind chimes...it was dark and i was outside on the porch of a friends house. The more i tried to get them out the more they became tangled. took 2 people to get em out of my hair. it was funny. and kinda embarrassing.

Intense Scalp Pain when i sweat

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

or it could be the wool. my father cannot wear anything wool. the lanolin in it makes his skin raw and causes blisters. just a thought....maybe when you sweat it is opening your pores and letting lanolin into your scalp? even old wool has some lanolin in it.

I wanted to add to the "natural" discussion :(

Dreading Methods

i still like the term freeform :) it has an organic sound to it. IMO it works much better than natural. but then again, it is only my opinion.
