dreadlocks driving me insane

Dread Maintenance

I am glad that you feel better now :) I am never gonna comb mine out but, I have a couple of questions out of curiosity. In the original one, you had only washed your hair about 6 times in 6 months and you had been crocheting. Did you continue maintaining that way up until you combed them out? You said your hair had been really long when you started your dreads. Did you loose any length? How much hair did the stylist cut off?

IS IT TRUE THAT IF YOU HAVE DREADS YOU SHOULD NOT EAT MEAT?

Dreads and Diets

loli know these posts are rather late...but i was bored and was reading through the forum. I read something that kinda disturbs me. It is not funny to mess with someone else"s beliefs. It is not funny to make someone believe they ate something that they truely believe is wrong. They believe this so much that it made them vomit. Where is the humor in this? If someone believes it is a sin to eat pork why was it funny to trick them into believing they ate sausage? It was a very cruel thing to do. There is nothing funny about it. and it sure as hell wasn't a joke. Just because you don't understand the reasons behind someone else's beliefs does not give you the right to be mean about it. Shame on you.

IS IT TRUE THAT IF YOU HAVE DREADS YOU SHOULD NOT EAT MEAT?

Dreads and Diets

I was raised in a Seventh Day Adventist family. The religion goes by the old testament food rules like the Ital diet.Eating certain meat (animals with cloven hooves and things that crawled on the bottom of the ocean) was prohibited. We were allowed to eat beef but most didn't .I also went to a private school so i wasn't really exposed to anything else. One of the most cruel things that I ever experienced was a field trip the school took us on to a slaughter house. Talk about brain washing a child! It was explained to me that not eating pork was because of triginosus ( not sure of the spelling) which is a parasite in undercooked pork. Same with scavengers they were considered "unclean".So the laws were set down for health reasons. I grew up and have my own beliefs now ..which differ greatly from what i was raised, but my diet hasn't changed. I tried a vegan diet but missed cheese too much (soy just isn't the same). I raised my children without meat. when my daughter was 4 years old she went to a birthday party and was given a hot dog...her first exposure to meat. I promptly took her home when i realised she had eaten some of it. I was worried ...she had never had any meat and did not have the digestive enzymes to digest it. I thought i would have a very sick little girl. Nothing happened ......nothing at all. She did not get sick. She is still a veggy by choice. My other daughter is a meat eater. Their choices....i never forced my opinions on them. Gave them the information and the options but let them choose.but i digress...your hair doesn't control your diet. It is a choice... dread or don't dread.....eat meat or don't eat meat.....it is up to you.

OK blunting tips make dreads lock better?

Dread Maintenance

Be patient Ethon. I remember how my dreads looked in the early stages. I just made a conscious decision to ignore my head. I rarely looked at myself in the mirror except to brush my teeth. I don't even have a lot of pictures of my head from that time. I kinda wish i did. I see so many people that start dreads and comb them out way before they mature. because they don't have the patience to wait that awkward phase out. and remember the less you do to your hair...the healthier your knots will be :)

OK blunting tips make dreads lock better?

Dread Maintenance

If you are having to re-bunt your tips...it is because your dreads are not mature or solid enough to hold the tips in. Leave them alone.
