So, uh, should I split this or what?

Dread Maintenance

Might have been my initial twist and rip. Wasn't too worried about it, though. I figured I should just wait anyway. Thanks, SE.

thats usualy from forced sectioning they may have wanted to be 2 dreads u forced to be 1 it should work itself out over time

The congo'd portion's actually longer than that, but you get the idea. Also, if a dread splits a little at the roots, I should just leave it, right? I mean there's no sense in splitting 8-10 inches of hair from the roots. I have two that look sort of like this.

That was quick. Guess I'll just leave it, then.

Dread Maintenance

Hey everybody. How's it going? Well, I've got this one dread towards the front that I'm kind of iffy about splitting. You see, I've already separated the end(kind of did it on it's own), and it's partially separated at the root but not completely. Originally I just thought I'd leave it for a while, and it would congo or something, but that hasn't been the case. I really have no problem leaving it, but I find myself playing with it a lot(although this is pretty much a habit of mine now). It's not quite loose enough for me to stick a finger through but... Ah, better yet, just take a look at the attached picture. It'll probably do better than what I can put in words.

Brand new twist and rip dread help

Dreading Methods

As SE said, the loose hair is normal. I've had my dreads going for a year now, and I still have plenty of dreads with loose roots. Especially in the front. Just let them be, and they'll come along eventually.

how often do you wash your locks?

Dread Maintenance

I used to do it once a week. I got really bad dandruff, though, so I decided every 3 days would suffice. I still get light dandruff from time to time, but it seems to be working. Hopefully my scalp will adjust.

People touching your dreadlocks

General Questions

I've had numerous people ask to touch my hair. It was a bit odd at first, but I just lightened up to it after a bit. It's actually pretty funny. I just wonder how they expect it to feel.

very small dreads.. anyone?

Introduce Yourself

The only way I could see that happening is if you pulled them out yourself. Although, I doubt you'd do that(Right? Right?). You'll be fine.

i was afraid they may break off at the root or something since they are so small..

How to make dreads go back

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I feel your pain, man. My hair's always in my face, since I can't always be bothered to tie it back. But like PJM said, you're going to have to wait until it gets longer. Afro-texture defies gravity, after all.I can't tell you how long it'll have to get, but I can suggest a small investment in a headband or elastic band. That, or a shirt sleeve.

Dread Maintenance Occurance - Honest Usage on this Site

Dread Maintenance

I do? I mean, I tried twisting a couple of sections after separating, but it didn't really do anything. Just left it alone otherwise. Oh, and not to topic jack, but after separating, is it normal to feel as though you're starting from square one?
