has anyone had really good luck with the backcombing methodd

Dreading Methods

I started mine in Aug 2009 with backcombing and yeah some fell out, and one still hasn't knotted the bottom half down but it's no bother it's getting there! But they all knotted up again after looking a little like a hobo for a few months, I love them now :D And wouldn't change any!! But I have no other experience on any other methods, but good luck with which ever you choose! :)

NanNoWriMo?!

General Talk

I'll summarise, basically it's there for people who have always wanted to write a novel but are scared to waste the time writing something that could turn out to be awful. To let your creative side flow and keep building rather then endlessly re reading and tearing down.
Once you've finished (digitally I might add) You have to send it to a verifier who checks the work and makes sure that you haven't just randomly hit the keyboard. I also helps raise funds for young writers programs, and by the end of the month you can say you are a novelist, which not many people can say.
I think it's a good way to get motivated with a novel, because of course you can go back in December and edit it then but you will have the initial ideas down.
You clearly disagree, each to there own I suppose

people are cruel

General Talk

I hate that people are so judgement and close minded :( I know it's easy to say but try not to take it to heart, you love your hair and by the sounds of it your best friend will stand by you whatever! You have a great friend there :) There opinions don't matter, what does is your own... Hope your feeling better soon

locticians the silly and damaging things they do

Dreading Methods

I completely agree that there is no point going and paying for a "loctition" to do your hair when you can get better results from doing practically nothing! I had a friend of a friend who was going to a locition, I'm from the North of England and they were paying loads of money getting down to London and then paying 200 for someone to dread them!! I couldn't believe it! When I told them they should stay at home and do it themselves and wax is awful :( they spoke to me as if they knew best although I had had mine for a year... They've done it now anyway and tbh they looks awful and sticky, all pointy and stiff with no character :(

Advice

Introduce Yourself

It's literally sectioning the hair and combing it upwards so it knotts and kind of frizzes together. Not the best method but I hadn't done as much research as I thought I had... They were like frizz balls for a few months :( Yeah don't expect them to be perfect but they do what they want, kinks and all. Just let em grow! :D

I'm not too lazy, but it's weird cuz you think they'll never do what you want them to do. What is backcombing exactly?

Hannah Clarke said:
I did backcomb mine, and within the first few weeks I was super paranoid that they were coming apart... but being lazy (thankfully :P) I left them and now a year in they are perfectly fine and knotted themselves up good and proper :D
