Baking Soda White Mud Problem--Starting a New Shampoo?

Dread Maintenance

i haven't seen any softening with that shampoo. when i was a teenager i used to spray my hair with lemon juice to lighten it when i went to the beach. dried the hell out of my hair in the process so i'm not so sure of it having softening effects. i just used prell shampoo with a little bs mixed in last time i washed and i found my hair to be a bit more frizzy but not in a good way. i don't know if it was the mix of prell and bs or just the prell. i'm going to try it again without the bs next time. one thing i do like about prell is that i can go three days before i need to wash again because my scalp doesn't get oily as quickly as it does with other shampoos. i really like fantasia 100% pure tea shampoo. you can get it on amazon. its a clarifying shampoo but it doesn't leave your hair feeling like straw. just clean.

Thanks for the suggestion Heather, I'm glad that shampoo is working out for you. I just ordered Prell Shampoo because someone suggested it here. Question though, the Desert Essence Organics Lemon Tea Tree Shampoo contains lemon, which is a natural conditioner, I've read on here that lemon will not help the locking process, thoughts on that?

dread accelerator sea salt and lemon juice

Dread Products

sun-in lightens your hair with the heat of a blow dryer because of the main ingredient peroxide.

Heat will cause lemon juice to lighten your hair. It is one of the ingredients used in a product called Sun In that is used to lighten the hair. You can use it either in the sun OR with a hair dryer.

Stopping the congos

Dread Maintenance

wrap the unruly ones in hemp starting at the top and crisscrossing all the way down the length of the dread. it should encourage them to tighten up and stop grabbing the other hair. just keep an eye on them because over time they will try to pull the hemp into the dread too.

almost brushed it all out :(

Dread Maintenance

thanks, daNi. i'm really trying to hold on here but there are definitely days when i'm done with the whole thing. i really do have the worst hair for this. lately i've just been stuffing my hair into hats. i don't even want to look at it. i added a bunch of beads last week in hopes of encouraging knotting. now i'm thinking that maybe just taking them out and letting my hair do what ever it wants and not separating for a very long time might be the best thing.

i've thought about bangs and i do have hair in front that isn't dreading or sticking together at all but it isnt much so it wouldn't be much of a bang. i don't have much hair in the front and sides compared to the back. i think if i did bangs it would just be one more thing to mess with and i really don't want the trouble.

i've heard of no poo but i love to wash my hair and i would seriously miss it. i'm trying to reduce the frequency of my washings down to twice a week instead of three in hopes of more knotting in between washes.

thanks so much for the support. i don't get much of it at home and its nice to know that there's an online community of wonderful people willing to offer people some words of encouragement. {{hugs}}

Did Dr. Bronner's Undo My One Month Neglect Progress?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

just so you know, eyeheartchrist does comment on one of his early videos when someone asks how he got his hair to lock up so short he says he used to mess with it. on another video he shows some of the sections he recently t&r'd. i personally don't care what he did to get his amazing dreadlocks but i wanted you to know so you didn't think you were failing somewhere because you couldn't get your hair to lock up at that length.

my hair is wavy on top and curly underneath. its really soft loose curls though. of course these crazy ones are right in front framing my face. they're about 6 inches shorter than the rest of my hair, too. ugh.
