Introduce Yourself

welcome, butterfly!

i'm in my 40's and i think this time in our lives is perfect for dreads. we aren't so worried about what others think of us anymore:) i say invest in some pretty scarves and headbands. it looks a bit more presentable to society whennecessaryand keeps the craziness out of your eyes. i've recently started pulling my hair back in a loose pony tail sometimes too. i normally only wear my hair up when i go out. make sure you give your hair equal time to hang freely. movement = knots.

Hair Washing.

Dread Maintenance

i was washing every other day when i started but i think that was undoing progress on my soft hair. i've gradually reduced my washings to twice a week now. its really helped my hair. everyone is different so you have to find what works best for you.

ps.. acv is apple cidervinegar

Tidying up dreads??

Dread Maintenance

i kind of know what your talking about. you get the weird undreaded strands of hair hanging from knotted ends. i've seen others on the boards mentioning cutting those strands off because they never fully suck into the dreads. also i've heard that you can weave stray hairs into the correctcorrespondingdread using a tapestry needle. i would look around on youtube and see what others are doing. i would stay away from a crochet hook though. i would really love to see pictures:)

General Talk

its the live chat forum at the very bottom of the page. anytime i get on the site i turn off my sound on my computer. it drives me crazy to listen to the beeping over and over again.

probably dr. bronners. it leaves a horrible greasy residue in my hair.one time, i decided i'd use it to clean off my patio and the run off on the driveway left a white scrummy stain that's still there a month later. we have really hard water. i won't be using dr bronners for anything again unless we move somewhere with a water softener.

NEED HELP FAST!!!

Dread Maintenance

a good idea is to wet your hair in clean water before going into a pool, etc so your hair will be less likely to soak upchlorineor yucky other stuff. swimmer do that.
