Dreads and Liquid dish Detergent

Dread Maintenance

dish soap is fine for removing wax or product build up but regular use will really wreck your hair. dish soap is meant to remove grease from dishes so using it on your hair will remove all oils in your hair. stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils will cause dandruff and brittle hair. dreads should never be brittle. if you can't order shampoo from bucks county right now than get yourself to a health food store and pick up a good organic shampoo. natures gate and kiss my face make nice gentle shampoos that work well for dreadlocks.

Really really really huge dread?

Dread Maintenance

yes, they might fatten up but they might not so i wouldn't worry too much. i have all different sizes and personally i prefer my fatties vs the thin ones. I'm currently not separating to encourage more congoing for bigger dreads. they do take longer to dry but i live in sunny southern California so that hasn't been an issue for me.

loose hair

Introduce Yourself

i use to worry about the same thing but recently I've really embraced all the loose hair i have. i enjoy the mix of dreadlocks and loose hair plus it gives me softness around my face. I'm sure in time it will dread up but I'm really not concerned with it.

Dread Maintenance

i use one every time i shower. mine is big so i have no worries about it hurting my dreads. i just don't want my hair to get wet.

dandruff shampoo

Introduce Yourself

bs/acv didn't work for me either. it just made my dandruff worse. using dandruff shampoo once won't hurt your hair but over time it will probably leave residue. when you can afford it, dreadlockshampoo liquid or bars work wonderfully. i use the bars and my dandruff is pretty much non existent.

these are my dreads

Introduce Yourself

they look really good! you might want to do a baking soda deep clean though. ivory is known for leaving soap scum. you really don't want that building up in your dreads.

Time span of natural locking?

General Questions

i started to get my first knots around 5 months. at 2 1/2 years my locs are finally mature. it's a long journey but i kind of miss all the crazy knots, loops and bumps that would show up in the beginning. just embrace the process and the end results will be glorious:)
