Handmade soap not rinsing out

Dread Maintenance

I actually just talked to Libby (who owns Maylee's Garden) about a couple of issues...and this was one of them! The first time I used it on my hair it felt all waxy afterwards. So then I diluted the Dreadhead HQ shampoo I had (yeah yea, but it was all I had on hand) and washed with that the day after...all my dreads loosened up! Gah! So then I used maylee's again (not as much) and while there's still somethign there, it seems to be helping rather than hurting my baby dreadies. Have you had trouble with the soap lathering? Libby said it should have massive lather...if it doesn't (like mine) then all your issues are probably hard water probs.

Beads and baby dreadies

Dread Maintenance

So is there any way to keep them in? I don't want to put in rubber bands...or am I just trying to add things too early? soaringeagle said:
well the dreads will thicken so a bead that sticks in a baby dread will be stuck practicly forever since the dread above and probably below will thicken up

u can get beads that sorta stick but move that u can take on and off but iu might lose em too

Beads and baby dreadies

Dread Maintenance

I know people suggest wearing beads over loops to make them go away, and I feel like it would help me separate some of my dreads that are trying to join up...but every time I find beads that don't fall out I feel like they are squishing my babies and that can't be good for them, can it?Should you not wear beads on baby dreads...or only for short periods of time? Or am I just paranoid? lolThanks!

Attempted to henna my hair...ahhh...bright bright orange (first picture) Not cool. lol

Bleached out the front a bit (second picture)

Dyed the front purple and the back brown/black (it was supposed to be a burgandy)

loving it! I love my dreads more and more every day! I'm not stressing about separating or anything...I'm getting some big loops, but that's alright. I've tried to wear beads a couple times, but can't get them to stay in! How do you guys do it? I even make my own beads but can't seem to get them small enough? Then when I put them on, I feel like I'm hurting my dread if they are too tight....I'm confused.

Last pic is some of the beads I've made.

Well, here I am at week...I think 12? I'm not quite sure anymore. And I'm too lazy to go back and count!

I've noticed the back of my head is getting tighter and tighter, shrinking too. the front is pretty much the same as always, it has stayed tight from the beginning and there hasn't been any shrinkage to my knowledge.

I've been separating a lot, but not as compulsively as before. I was so paranoid that they would congo that I would pry at the root to make sure each was separate! Now I just wait for it to grow out a bit, and go to it.

Today is actually the first day that I've had some doubts and even considered combing out! My personality has changed a lot...I've always been really adventurous with my hair, but I was also the type of person who wouldn't leave the house without makeup...so now that I'm dealing with this massive fuzzy head, I figure that worrying about makeup would be kind of silly! If I don't worry what people think about my hair, why would I worry about makeup and clothes?

Then again, I have the freedom to not work (disabled veteran)...and not everyone has that. I've been considering applying for a couple jobs, some volunteer positions too, and I'm not quite sure how to make my hair a little more presentable. And at the same time, I'm not sure I want to. I don't have to work, so why stress about changing my appearance just to get a job? I'm still debating on this one.

I do miss my black and purple hair though. I was inspired by someone else on here to henna my dreads. Did some research and bought some product online tonight. Couple different colors...god forbid my hair be all the same color!! I want at least 3 different shades of red in there!

I'm also going to get back to working on my beads. I slacked off for a long time...and I need to sell the ones I've already made...Starting next week, I'll be selling!Oh yeah...pictures!

It's been two weeks and two days! Here's a couple pictures from day one, week one, and week two (the last three pics). It looks looser than it is, only because my ends are loose and curly.

Do you ever foam your dreads?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

That's what I thought too, Davey...I had to read the posts a bunch of times before I realized they were suggesting you wash one out before the other. Davey said:
i always assumed that is what you were supposed to do, because the vinegar reacts with the baking soda ensuring both are washed out 100% and the reaction gets your head clean. i've been doing it for myself and my girlfriend for about 2 months and we've not had any problems

lolDon't worry, there's nothing inherently dangerous about the combination. It's one of the most basic chemical reactions, no danger involved.I'll have to watch out for the drying though...My daughter was thrilled while I was playing with the concentrations (practicing to see how much water with each would still foam)...it was a blast!
