Will My dreads thicken and look fuller?

General Questions

well it depends on wich method was used to "create" them, if you did them with a crochet hoock they are likely to be too tight and thin but if you are patient and stop touching them they wil eventually loose up a bit and look fuller its gonna take a few months though depending on youre type of hair.

but it would help alot if you show us a picture of the condition of youre dreads

Tidying up dreads??

Dread Maintenance

I totally agree with SE dreads tend to tighten up better if you leave them open as much as possible so that they can move and knott up freely in every direction.

but if you want to speed up the preoses a bit you can put a towel on youre pillow that can help the frizz and the loose hair to dread faster, though i would recomend using a towel that hgas more or less the coulour of youre hair.

if its still to slow for you you can take the loose hair strains and form kind of mini dreadlocks by tear and ripping them. This helps the loose hair to dread into bigger dreads more easily or if you separate them every now and then it can also form new dreads. alot of my thinn dreads where formed like that.

for the bumbs and loops if you dont like them or feel they look to messy i would recomend putting beads on the spots you want to look better (i personally love loops and bumps), this also can help if you feel that a dread is too flat.

but keep in mind that these methods can all cause harm to youre hair and it is probably better to be patient and dont do anything, but if you still want to do it be wise and dont overuse them especially withTnR the loose hair.

on the other side the thing with the towel is not that harmfull in my experience, i have done that for years and i havent noticed any damage by now

however keep it up and be patient and keep in mind that next year by this time you wil have marvelous dreads or even sooner.

dreadfro

Member Journals and Timelines

personally i wouldnt consider crocheting them had some bad experiences in the past with crochet needles

the frizz gets less with time but never really goes away, its part of having dreadlocks.

you know if you start crocheting you will have a lot of work because the more you crochet the more frizz you will get and therefore you will have to crochet even more and so on...

Thin hair Question

Dreading Methods

I also would say that it isnt necasarry,

but i think that starting with braids can be very effective not necesarly for thr knotting but i think that with braiding you can control better the sections of your dreads.

My little sister sometimes makes cornroes (not sure if i wrote it right) in the summer and she leves them like the whole summer and in the end she gets a few pretty neat and nice sectioned dreads but she always combs or cut them out when they are too knotted.

what i was saying is that it also can be a method to start dreads and i think you should try it because as far as i know we have very few to no reports on this site of ppl. who started their dreads this way.

It would be interesting to see how it turns out and how well it works because we have informations about nearly every method how to start dreads but not about this one.

so i would say do it, could be a cool experience :-)

i would also recomend not to touch it because if you touch them they will get greasy and wont dread, besides if youre 2 months in with backkombing i think its fairly normal that you have alot of loose hair.

as SE said they wil get less as the dreads mature but wont dissapear you will always have some loose hair around somwhere.

but in my experience it helps to sleep with a towel on youre pillow, my impression is that it helps the undreaded parts to slowly dread into other dreads as you move youre head while sleeping, dont know if it actually works or its just placebo. i do it anyways aparently its also good for the skin. but i am not sure if it damages the dreads in any way but i dont think so.

you should probably give it a try and if doesnt work well you still get smooth skin

....the ladies love smooth skin ;-)
