The ends of some of my dreads are forming large balls....what's up???????

Introduce Yourself

Can you post a pic? I think what you are experiencing is budding. Its normal, happened to me too. It'll stop eventually. Really is nothing to worry about.

A friend of mine has a perm

Dreading Methods

Twists don't work even in black hair if the hair it has been permed. It messes with the structure of the hair. I've had Dreads for like 2 years now, started with the twisting method, and the 1 1/2 inches that were permed still haven't locked. I was rocking an afro before the dreads, and I permed it to make the 'fro "puffier". Now I wish I didn't, but no way i'm cutting it off. To me, its part of my journey. Don't know about braiding it though, that might work soaringeagle said:
interlocking would be a mistake if shes black then try twists or me more patient or add beads beads will help
if white trwist n rip or backcomb

or beads

knotty jonny clean defines hardness as tightness? wtf?

Dread Maintenance

Ahh. I See. That makes sense, that thicker dreads would be softer. Plus my hair is usually extra dry. After i put aloe or shea in them, they do feel quite soft. soaringeagle said:
ewell were talkin thicker dreads thinner ones dont compress as much
plus african textured hair does get tighter
plyus dryness can make em lil harrder too

hardness in as thick dread would be extremely unconfy when sleeping

Dread Maintenance

Maybe it's just a difference in texture for me since my hair is naturally afro textured and all, but I never used wax in my hair, and my dreads aren't "soft" in the sense that some of you are saying, where you can squeeze to half their thickness. To me, they feel kind of hard, though not like rocks or something lol. Maybe it could also have something to do with how you start your dreads (mine were started by twisting, so i have like 120 small dreads). I'm not saying you should desire hardness, but is it necessarily a bad thing?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks guys. So i found the black tea. I didn't realize that it was just regular old tea lol. I worked great. I'll have to check out the loc sock thing, too.

Lint

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Yea, in in my black hair, it seems like it looks real obvious. I'll try that. but where wouldi find black tea? It is only in a couple of dreads at the back near the nape of my neck, so I almost thought about cutting those dreads off. That's how mad it was making me. But i haven't cut my hair in like 2 years, so i just couldn't do it. Paula said:
You could try soaking your dreads in black tea...it will stain the link dark and make it less visible

Lint doesn't cause harm it's just unsightly...so make it invisible :)
