How soon can I wash?

Dread Maintenance

SE, I did it at home, NO wax or anything other than a comb to brush it out first. Twist and rip. I read here and posted before doing it, NO salon, you taught me that!Hey Mike, hot, huh! I do not swim much, but have a hot tub, which I keep cool in the summer. I dunno when should go in it. Maybe wear a shower cap to keep the bromine out of it....

How soon can I wash?

Dread Maintenance

It is like 105 where I live, I am used to washing my hair daily, how long do I need to wait to shampoo? And should I use the ACV right off the bat? Just pour the baking soda shampoo on and let it sit, not rubbing, even the scalp? Just had my hair done yesterday, dying to shampoo!

Finished the dreads and a question

Dreading Methods

Oh, and any ideas where I can find decent tams? You do NOT want me near knitting needles or crochet hooks. trust me!

Finished the dreads and a question

Dreading Methods

Hey, thanks you guys! Yeah, there is like an inch of hair at the scalp, I read here you do not want them against the head, to leave a bit of room there. Everything just looks kinda...well, like when you get a perm and they take the rollers out and hair is going in every direction. Is that normal? I let my hair fall where it wanted and started randomly sectioning it and let it kind of do it's own thing. Some small, some larger. Does all of this sound okay? And I am following SR's baking soda shampoo and ACV rinse. When you wash the hair, do you just use your fingers on the scalp, and let the baking soda do its thing, and not touch the dreads>Thanks - Alicia

Dreading Methods

I know my hair, and I know I will wake up in the morning to a mess! Is there something I can do, spray with water or something to tame it down? And how soon can I wash it?Oh ya, when we were tnr it, the ends of the dreads are like little brushes, like the last inch. Is that normal? It is like the last inch did not take, because it was so close to the end, my fingers could not do anymore without it slipping off the hair. Thanks - Alicia

How do I separate the hair?

Dreading Methods

When I start, can I start from the front? I would like to get going on this, but I don't have anyone to help me with it for a few days. And do I start from the top in the front or what? And should I just separate with my fingers or a comb to be more precise? Lot of questions. lol

Dreads in steps

Dreading Methods

If I am going to do twist/rip dreads, what are my steps? Do I wash with non residue soap first? Do I need to dry it? And can I do part of it at one time then other parts of it later or does it need to be all at once? I asked below, but do you think me and a friend could do it, both of us having never done this before, but watched the vids on here?

Introduce Yourself

Thanks for the fast reply. I did look at the videos, especially the twist and rip one. My hair is super straight...will that make it harder to dread? And I am trying to figure out how to section it, does it need to be sectioned perfectly or what, exactly? Start from the bottom, top, what? I glean a LOT of info from the forum and the videos, but I guess I still have questions. My hair is about 5 inches long now. Again, thanks for any answers, Soaring Eagle (BTW, I LOVE your hair!).Alicia
