Dread beads

Dread Accessories

Have you tried any of the beauty supplies stores on Jay St/Borough Hall or Jamaica? In Jamaica, Queens there are atleast two beauty stores on every block. Thats where I found my cowries shells. Also there are a lot of rastas and mini malls so I am sure they can push you in the right direction.

Help Plzz

Dread Maintenance

Wow that is odd. Usually before I get into the pool I get myself wet using the shower. When I am done I go back to the shower to help wash out any impurities. Afterwards I walk back to my house and take a shower. I do not have any problems with chlorine or buildup so it may be a reaction with your products to chlorine. Just do a baking soda wash. Unless its aloe gel you do not need to use it that frequently.

Conditioner on my 7 month old Dreads

Dread Maintenance

I used to use a biotin conditioner on my dreads when I was in the hospital. You really shouldn't wash every day though.

Yeah you would probably do really well if you sell them on Etsy.

locticians who hate dreads

Dread Maintenance

As a black person when I see people walk around with thin dreads and their scalp is showing, I get goosebumps. Like seriously, something about seeing all that scalp and thin little dreads are a bit scary. My sister and I got into an argument in June because she said that my dreads looked terrible and I should go visit someone for maintenance. So I bought the overhead dryer and told her that I would save money and maintain it on my own. Lets just say that my kitten is more attracted to the dryer than I am.

Anyway I went to my college Admissions office to submit some documents. Instead of being in and out I was told to take a number and sit. So I had this feeling that someone was staring daggers at me so I look in the direction. There is a woman with sunglasses on and she had her dreadlocks in a bun. I realized that she was a mom and her daughter was sitting next to her. She kept staring at my hair until I sat down next to her. I got a good look at her hair and I was really confused. She had all of these skinny dreadlocks in a huge bun but her hairline was receding and there were huge gaps in between each lock.

Like yes the manicured locks can be asthetically pleasing, but I'm 22 I don't want to have to start plucking out dreadlocks that were twisted to their limit.

Cowrie Shells

Dread Accessories

Wow I had learned that the shells were used as a form of currency and that attaching a certain amount of them to one lock of hair meant something totally different.

But you are right, three are enough. Besides I don't want to be click clacking everywhere!

Cowrie Shells

Dread Accessories

For those of you that are scratching your head these are cowrie shells:

So I bought a bunch of these back in 2009 when I was getting senegalese twists in my hair. The stylist sewed them to the twists and a few months later I cut them out with the weave. Now I just happened to have found a large bag of these. I tried to put them on my dreads after my failed string attempt. I was only able to put them on one dread.

So should I sew the rest in or just wait for my dreads to grow?
