Dreading Methods

I'm one of those people that had my hair crocheted and you could/can see the scalp...this is because the sections are sooo big. My hair is very fine and the girl who crocheted them said that she had to make the sections big or the dreads would be super thin... I now know that if left alone, they will thicken up... and because my sections are sooo big, I will end up with super fat dreads... not exactly what I was after to begin with, but am happy to go with the flow now. My scalp is slowly hiding itself away under lots of loose hair and what will be will be. Knowing what I know now, I would never have had my hair crocheted, but that said, I don't regret the journey I've started, my hair has changed a lot since day one and I look forward to the many changes ahead....

I'm a Special Needs Teachers Aide in a Kindergarten in Brisbane, Australia. I've had nothing but positive feedback from work colleges, management and families. Most of the children think I have a 'spider' living on my head as I wear my hair on top of my head, usually beaded to add texture and movement - they love to touch my hair. Parents still take me seriously - previous to locking my hair I wore 'felt dreadlock hair bands' to tie up my hair, so I guess nobody was surprised when I locked my hair. I get more attention at the local supermarket....children usually stop me to tell me that they love my hair and the older generations usually stop me to ask me what happened to my hair or to ask me if I'm alright, because 'something happened to your hair love'. I usually forget about my hair and get a bit of a shock when they tell me that something has happened to it, then I remember and laugh it off. I'm pretty laid back and friendly about it, so nobody gets too antsy and I get to walk away smileing.
