good to spread the word. salons should stick to perms and leave the dreads to real people soaringeagle said:
well it might suck for u but your mistake might save 100 from making the same mistake.. your mistakes now permenantly out there for all to see and learn from
with any luck by tomoro if you type dread salons or dreadlocks salon this hopefully will come up in top 10 it would be amazing if ot does concidering how many salons there are but i have a feeling it will be in top 20 at least

Alright guys I'm kinda mad right now because I just had to CUT MY AFRO OFF. I really didn't want to, I mean I could grow it back in about 6 months, but the SALON lady said my hair is too "coarse" to form twists and lock up and eventually form dreadlocks. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS. She also told me I can't wash my hair for 6 months, and that my twists, because of my hair which to the salon lady is too "Straight" when I am full african and my hair is the curliest thing I know, would come undone every week and I would have to get them done again every week instead of every month. My friend told me it was because I waited a long time to get the twists, and I am supposed to get them as soon as my hair is long enough. And then let them grow and re twists, and re twist. I really never should of went to any salon, and if my mom was here she would of twisted it for me. So i have a buzz cut now what should I do? I really think I should have listened to SoaringEagle and let them grow natural. I really don't see why the salon lady said my hair wouldn't lock up, I'm a lil mad now...

Two-Strand Twists!

Dreading Methods

Thanks a lot Josh I appreciate it! I'll make sure to hit you up again after I get the twists on Monday most likely, and thanks for the doo rag tip as well! Josh said:
Well i started out that method. I had a big soft Afro just like yours. My first attempt that lasted for 3 months was through comb coil method, i think that's what you mean by "gel twists". It had a hard time holding in and my hair and scalp got all messy from the gel. I would advice you to do the two strand method which i did after my first attempt and also with gel (preferably mango and lime gel) no wax as most people will say. The two strand method allows you during the early process of locking (within the first 6 months a.k.a the baby stage) to wash your hair as many times as you want.

The first few months it will look like 2 strand twists but as you keep washing your hair and keep re-twisting it will take on the look of dreadlocks. If you want neater dreadlocks id advice someone with experience to section your hair (in box form not circular shape). If you want more of a freeform or neglect style then like soaringeagle says you might as well twist them yourself.

hope that helps =D

Big help bro, thanks. How often would I have to retwist and could I do it at home instead of the salon? Josh said:

Two-Strand Twists!

Dreading Methods

Hey guys, remember me? Yeah so I found a salon somewhat near my area who can do dreadlocks! They only have two methods though, gel twists and two strand twists.(They don't use any wac or dread perms and things like that) I decided to go with two strand twists. I will let them grow out and form dreadlocks. Anything I should know about maintenance or anything like that? Thanks a lot to everyone and everyone from my other post on here! Peace!
