Another new dreadie

Introduce Yourself

Welcome Wild Roots and congrats on product free hair! I joined: dreads saved by dreadlockssite.com group for the same reasons. Without this site I probably would have succumbed to wax products or crocheting.Btw, your baby dreads look fantastic!@firechild - no wonder you have to retwist if you use conditioner. Natural womyn gave an excellent tip when using acv as a conditioner. put the rinse in a squirt bottle, so that way it can be aimed at the scalp. better than putting conditioner over everything and having more twists than necessary fall out. It's also a fact that less twisting = less damage. SE may be blunt, but he's just looking out. happy dreading :)

You're definitely a candidate for the orange oil soap removal concoction that some former Jonny Clean supporters are testing. There's no guarantee that it will get it out yet, but at least it's steps towards finding something that will. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/former-dreadheadhq-suppo... I'm so sorry this happened to you. If go through our forums we've had several argumentative discussions with newbies that support the working man selling wax products. And we essentially say "NO PRODUCTS, GO NATURAL" and they say that we're too negative and are bashing people trying to make a living. This is why we're passionate about natural dreads and dislike products and most of us will always "bash" on products. It's fine to make a living as long as you're not harming other people's hair and pushing wax as the end all be all maker for dreads. We want to rescue as many people from wax as possible and if it makes us not seem like peace loving hippies, FUCK IT. Horror stories like this is what keeps us going.

Proof of the dangers..make jonny cut his dreads?

General Questions

it's an excellent idea. i wonder if there would be a way to actually get him to do that without faking the results to his benefit.i imagine a dreadlocked ninja sneaking up behind him and cutting one off in front of a video camera and then quickly slicing it in half and showing off the build up. anyone quiet and sneaky? mehehe...

Day one of dreads 1/4 done doing twist and rip, what do you think?

Dreading Methods

If you're really upset about the fuzzies and feel like a hot mess when you go out, buy an aloe vera plant for a few bucks or actual aloe gel that has to be refrigerated. I have a plant and I tear off about 1/3 of a leaf and take a butter knife to split it and rub the wet pieces all over my frizz. Aloe is really conditioning, so I don't do it very often cause over use may prevent the hair from dreading.Honestly though, you still look good with a frizzy halo :)

Dreading pubes

General Questions

Hehe, I had a friend that liked waxing down there into a strawberry and dying it blood red with the green sprout thing on top (lovely imagery, haha, but really it was despite my description. Wish she had been comfortable enough for pictures). It was too time consuming and we looked up alternatives. Also, I have other friends that do burlesque and suicide girl stuff. I think they purchased there's from somewhere cheaper. If anyone dreads their merkin....I wanna see! XD Addiboy said:
WTF how did you even learn that those existed?

I dunno about extensions, but they do have merkins: http://www.merkinworld.com/ XD The kitty one makes me smile.

The internet might as well be a black market...I'm sure someone could find pube extensions if they wanted

If you want to stay natural, human pube extensions instead of synthetic :P

The shampoo struggle.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Did you try an acv rinse after? I've had the same problems with Dr. Bronner's (I think it's the water) and I've had baking soda residue. The only real solution for me has been acv and it prevents itchiness too.

Essential oil perfume in dread wash?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

dread spray = essential oils + water or is there more to it than that? I'm considering making my own dread spray and possibly with a dash of sea salt. YUM hehehe... Knottysleeves said:
Maybe make your own dread spray to use after washing? That way you won't lose any of the oils during the wash. And you'd only be spraying a fine mist... not enough oil to leave residues or hinder locking.

Dread Products

I'm happy they're implementing such a wonderful idea. However, I can't believe they lost friends due to wax ignorance. That's awful. I would be proud to their friend!

reducing ads and covering costs

General Talk

I agree, but the old background was outdated and unprofessional. Instead of the light colored stones is there a way to make it a single gray background?I'm all for moving, but is it expensive and what are other options?I absolutely agree with the last statement that donations for this site should be solely used for this forum. Those that feel strongly about the other topics should donate and specify. If not, it shows the sites are not sustainable and should be closed. Knottysleeves said:
My opinion? The new textured backgrounds make it even harder to read things. Content is what this site's all about, and tIhat should be the focus. Look at the design and colour schemes of most popular, high-traffic forums -- graphics are kept to a minimum, there are rarely any distracting backgrounds, and the focus is on navigation (finding things easily) and the actual discussion content.
I love this site... but from a design and usability standpoint, it's painful. :-) The new navigation buttons at the top are a huge improvement (thanks again SE!) but there are so many distracting widgets, ads, sidebars, etc. I'm not an expert on Ning sites, but from my limited understanding there is only so much customization you can do with them, and the basic functionality remains the same -- for example, there's no indicator for "new topics since your last login", which almost every other forum system out there has. Features like that would make a huge difference for regular members. I've suggested before that we move to a proper forum system and host it somewhere other than Ning, but that is totally SE's call of course. As for the ads (both inline and google ads) I don't even see them because I use Firefox with NoScript and Adblock. ;-)Regarding the other two sites, I'm not a member on either of them. I strongly believe that any revenue generated for dreadlockssite.com through donations should STAY with dreadlockssite.com, rather than being used for other sites that our members here may not participate in or want to support.
