I have questions about dreadwax - yes, I'm really asking this here lol

Dread Products

I have very straight 'caucasian' hair that I thought would not dread without help. (That's what I get for believing the top stories when I googled Dreadlocks). I used DHHQ wax and plain bees wax on two different attempts to "flash dread" my hair. The wax ruined a set of pillowcases, a couple of shirts and at least one towel. And my hair never did lock up. Why would it? The wax just made my very straight hair even slicker. Both times I ended up cutting out the waxed dreads (they went straight into the garbage) and waiting for my hair to grow out enough to start over. I found a good cleansing shampoo that got all the chemical residue out of my hair and I now have natural neglect dreads that are clean and wax, fuzz, and bug free. 'Caucasian' hair WILL lock up. It just takes patience and a cute tam or two!

Dread Maintenance

I had one that was getting a baby growing out the side of it. I slid a bead onto it and left it alone. It is no longer a loc with a baby but now it is a big fatty! Faelwynn said:
Why is it that he had to go through all that trouble to create a congo when he could have just slid that peyote stitch (or another bead or something) over it and leave it be? Sure, congos can be tough little bastards (I have one under my ear that's still not quite right....) but why putz with the inner knots/framework of your dread to create a congo? That doesn't make any sense to me...

Also, we can see how little he really cares for dreads if he's willing to lop the tip off to try and complete that method... again, a peyote stitch or bead would have worked just as well, and you wouldn't have had to cut the end off... jeeez

How do you cut off your dreads then reattach them? And why would you want to? I kinda like my curly, bumpy, fuzzy, skinny, fat dreads! Although I began by thinking that perfectly rolled pencil thin dreads would look good with my white hair. I am digging the natural look afterall!

Introduce Yourself

The only thing a crochet hook is good for is crocheting. The other end is really good for getting to that itchy scalp! I agree with SE, though, NEVER NEVER NEVER crochet your hair. My dreads took nearly 2 years from the time I lost my comb until someone said "Nice dreads!" Patience Grasshopper Patience

Have you tried a salt spray and washing with a soap that includes salt? Also, are you weaving the hair back in with a crochet hook?
